The way I see it - Its a timeless design for this millennium, rather than a pure look at the past. And its just not about the Kawasaki - for I really like the Triumph Street Twin a similar way over the Boneville range!

I was born in the late 80s and grew up seeing the booming 90s. So the 'real' superbikes of the 70s like the Z1 may not evoke the same emotions in me as it would for some others. Hence I forgive Kawasaki for compromising on some of the originality and bringing in some minimalist elements of modernity into the design. For example - I find the exhaust on the original Z1 a bit overdone whereas the Z900RS is just perfect with that single end can.

Probably, even with the inline4 exhaust note - this thing will cut through traffic rather unnoticed.

re: Kawasaki Z900 RS (W800 replacement), now launched at 16.47 lakhs

There is no reason Z900 should be sold without Traction control unless its going to be priced above the Z900. That was the only feature missing from a great motorcycle. The RS is about 10 horses or so short and still has TC.

I am tore between the S Triple or Z900 for my upgrade, but TC in today's time is a glaring omission.

re: Kawasaki Z900 RS (W800 replacement), now launched at 16.47 lakhs

A little birdie tells me that Kawasaki is looking to price the 900RS very aggressively based on what the company perceives its competition to be (and not necessarily a Z900 plus features bike). So dont be surprised if Kawasaki pulls a N1000 pricing shocker on the retro motorcycle segment in India. Also, Kawasaki seems to be moving at a war pace to bring this to India, the upcoming Honda CB1100 will have a tough time indeed!!

You summed it all up so well in one sentence. What a looker! A retro with Japanese reliability and inline 4 engine! Wow! And those salt and pepper instrument canisters. Just wow!

Since its not related to Z900RS, i would say skip both and get the 1000. No compromise because of the price at which the Ninja 1000 is sold today.

1000 vs Z900RS, i would pick Z900RS.

But between the two choices, i am leaning towards the striple RS. Unbelievable updates to what was a great bike already but you are looking close to paying the same as the 1000.

The comfort of an old school motorcycle with simple lines and comfort is best appreciated by the above 3criteria people.otheriwse the college going youngsters will always prefer and pick the yuppy KTM type radical and flashy designs

They really cannot price it over the Nina 1000. That just has too much tech going into it. I forecast a pricing between 8.18L to 8.98L ex-showroom for this 'Rally Sport'! Lets see.

Cheers...
Haha. Nothing like that sir . enjoying the z900 thoroughly and having fun every minute. absolutely fabulous and a bike of many talents . don't think there's a better bike for our conditions and everyday day use currently and the price at which they are is selling it only makes it so much better. Remorse is not with the bike, only with the lethargic dealers and crap after sales and service.
What I meant by wannabe was middle aged first time bikers or people wanting to touch a bike again after gap of many years and find this alluring and tempting enough

As far as pricing the Z900RS is concerned, looking at Kawasaki's current approach I won't be surprised if they even manage to price this 80k or a lakh lesser than the z900

And you'll still find people claiming Japanese motorcycles do not convey as much emotion as British or Italian ones do.

Simply IN LOVE with this one. This was my image of how my motorcycle would be right since I was a kid. Fabulous job Kawasaki.

I would especially like to appreciate the efforts of the team which have produced the videos. They seem to capture the whole idea and image of the Z900 RS so well. Here is another one where it is probably the father and son riding together (probably the continuation of the earlier video).

In the Official Studio Video which was shared earlier, simply love how the guy pushes the bike out at the end. That alone indicates so much passion. Other than that, it seems to be all Wall-E inspired!

Oh my God, I can't wait to:
  • Turn 18
  • Start earning.

Regards,
Neel

This looks like a blockbuster. If Kawasaki prices it well (maybe ~50k premium over Z900) - Street Twin / Bonnie / Iron 883 would have a huge task to compete.

Whatever most think about this bike is right but I think this bike will sell really well in the 650cc guise. Price it around 5-6lakhs on road n see the magic in numbers. I'll be definitely joining the Q outside the showroom.

I think Kawasaki has plans to launch supercharger 675cc bikes in the near future. But definitely they are not going to be priced in the 5-6 lakhs range.

When it comes to retro-looks I am a Bonnie fan. But, this one makes me go weak in my knees. Great job, Kawasaki.

Classic case of less is more design wise. Such a desirable motorcycle. Products like these create the early onset of mid life crisis! The ads are a perfect match to the product as well.

Brilliant job by Kawi on this one. Z 900 pedigree with some added frills thrown in and a retro look. What's not to love here. I hope they launch this in India too. There are clearly takers for every genres from cruisers to street to retro to ADV in the gradually discerning Indian market.

Charming!!! (at minimum)
I have been drooling over the pics and have lost 2 hours of productive time at office.
I suddenly started seeing a lot of negatives in the Bonnie and street twin. May be its just that my mind is trying to find an excuse to go for it instead of anything else. IMO the best time to get this would be launch time as pricing is going to be aggressive (as per other posts by fellow BHPians).
Awaiting the first detailed review.
