Ducati bikes of the future will come equipped with radar-based safety systems. The Advanced Radar Assistance Systems (ARAS) will be available on one of the Ducati models in 2020.

Ducati started work on ARAS back in 2016 in collaboration with the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano University. It uses sensors including radar to scan for potential obstacles and alerts the rider to prevent possible collisions. The system can identify vehicles present in the blind spot and detect fast-moving traffic approaching from behind. Initially, the system had radar sensors positioned in the rear of the bike. In 2017, a front radar was added with features like adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning.

ARAS is part of Ducati's 'Safety Road Map 2025' initiative. As a first step, the bike maker has already implemented its strategy by introducing ABS Cornering system on the Scrambler family. Soon, this safety feature will be available across all Ducati models. Besides this, Ducati had introduced the airbag jacket back in 2014. The Dainese D-Air riding jacket has an inbuilt airbag, which can deploy in 45 milliseconds. It is now available on the Multistrada 1260 D-Air.

Thank you for sharing this! Yes, definitely something to look forward to, actual implementation would be interesting to see how it works.
Hopefully VW doesn’t sell them off before any of this starts happening!
