Great news for enthusiasts waiting for a proper Japanese supersport. Extremely reliable sources have spotted the 600cc Kawasaki ZX-6R supersport bike at the ARAI test facility undergoing homologation tests. For those not in the know, every bike or car (excluding CBU imports) has to undergo a series of tests to determine if they are fit for use in Indian road conditions before being introduced in the market. Spotting a bike undergoing homologation is a clear indicator of a bikemaker wanting to launch it in India.

Kawasaki’s long-awaited Ninja ZX-6R has finally been spotted at ARAI for homologation. For those of you that don’t know, Indian law says that a manufacturer cannot launch any motorcycle below 800cc without it passing a list tests before it can be approved for sale in India. This process is called homologation and takes place somewhere prior to the launch of new vehicles, these vehicles are sent to the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) for the testing to make sure they’re suited for roads in India and pass our norms. This makes it quite evident that Kawasaki has finally decided to bring the ZX-6R to India!

Going by the US prices, the 6R could be positioned between the Ninja 1000 (9.99L ex-showroom) and the ZX10R (12.8L ex-showroom).

This is good news. Honestly a 600 makes a much better track tool than the 1000s for Indian racetracks (except BIC). The 6R can comfortably fit into the void left behind with the Daytona's demise. Has the right amount of power and kit and a sub 13 lakh OTR price should see many takers.

This will also put Kawasaki comfortably ahead of the other Jap brands in the market on brand recall and market cap.

I am a fan of Kawasaki's marketing and sales team. This company is so aggressive in its product/market approach its unreal.
Coming back to the product, this is a hit from kawasaki and probably the best super sport in the world at the moment. Great electronics package, comfortable( for a super sport) and that long stroke 636 cc engine is a knock out punch. The fact that it looks good doing all this is a cherry on the cake.
Bring it on Kawasaki! And Oh, for any one considering this, it is a very very lethal machine.

Would Indian consumers (read age 30+ married men) really buy this over the more comfortable and bigger Ninja 1000 if it's priced more than 10L ex-showroom? I don't think so.

An ex-showroom price of 8.5-9.5 Lakhs would make it a lot more compelling buy.

Both have very different target audience. Ninja 1000 is a sports tourer while the ZX6R is a hardcore track machine. For normal street riding - Kawasaki already has the Ninja 650.

Incidentally, the non-ABS version retails in the US for $9,999 and the ABS one is for $11k approx. Assuming Kawa forecasted decent volumes and hence planned for an SKD route, this should very well be another knockout punch from Kawa on the pricing front.

Dont hold a gun to my head later but I would put my money on this being sub-13 lakhs OTR which will happily set the cat among the Italian and British pigeons.

Ofcourse all this is an assumption but seeing the way Kawasaki has been agressive and bangon with its pricing in recent times (barring the Ninja 400) I dont see them botching up such a crucial product launch.

Agreed that all 3 are different machines. But I don't think Indian riders are that differentiated, given the few tracks in India, and the small crowd of track junkies.

Already Ninja 650 & Z900 are doing decent volumes as is Ninja 1000. Why would Kawasaki cannibalise them by aggressively pricing ZX-6R. Let this be the tool of choice for track junkies and Kawasaki can extract the premium from this product.

Fair enough!

Also - great garage! I also have a Jetta and hopefully, a Multi will join it within a year or two.
