According to a media report, the Honda CBR650F has been discontinued in India. While the current lot of bikes have been sold out, the CBR650F is likely to be replaced with the CBR650R.



The CBR650F was launched in October 2017. It came with a triangular full-LED headlight and Showa Dual Bending Valve (SDBV) type fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The bike was powered by a 648.72cc, liquid-cooled, in-line 4-cylinder engine that produced 85.4 BHP @ 11,000 rpm and 60.5 Nm of torque @ 8,500 rpm. The engine was mated to a 6-speed gearbox.



The CBR650R is the replacement for the CBR650F. Unlike the CBR650F, which had a single headlamp, the new model features Fireblade-inspired styling with a twin-headlamp setup and upside-down (USD) fork suspension at the front. The 649cc, in-line 4-cylinder engine has also been updated and produces 94 BHP @ 12,000 rpm and 64 Nm of torque @ 8,500 rpm. The revised braking setup includes twin 310 mm discs at the front with 4-piston calipers and a 240 mm disc at the rear with a single piston caliper.

Y S Guleria, Senior VP, Sales and Marketing at HMSI, had earlier confirmed an early 2019 launch for the CBR 650R. The 650F has gone missing from the Honda website as well - so I hope the launch is near.

The 650R seems to be a much more desirable packaging, over a very capable and practical machine the 650F always was! Only the pricing remains to be seen.
