Oh the Mufflers!
Everything on this cruiser is beautifully crafted. And even though it brings this retro vibe with it, its a thorough modern machine. Switchable maps, TC, ride by wire throttle, combined ABS and cornering lights to name a few.
I have to give it to BMW to come out with a brand new 1800cc engine in this day and age. Take a bow BMW, you have crafted a marvel.
Now just make sure those Vance n hines replacement mufflers are available soon so that those hideous looking 'bloated snake who has just eaten' shaped end can can be replaced.
This is more Art piece, less motorcycle.
Apparently someone in BBSR has already taken the delivery.
18,9 is ok-ish given the Import duties. First Edition price is to recover the expenses Motorrad incurred during launch events at dealerships :)
When I checked the bike with M, I felt it excessively heavy. It will be a pain in our traffic unless you have solid muscles or are over 6 Feet tall. Highly impractical too, can't think of the place you can put your luggage.
Except as a poser, don't see the function at all, or have I grown too old?
Master piece and a show stopper, for the Living room.
But this is a dead on arrival motorcycle in terms of sales. If they do sell 10 units that would a celebration for Bmw india.
Expect massive discounts in 6 months time.
I dont get the point of releasing such models here. These are sales duds. with the boxer engine bikes they launched here earlier the K1300r, The GTL baggers, R 1250R, F900R etc. Yes there sport and adventure models are a massive hit. The rest is just plain waste of time for BMW india.

I absolutely agree. The Triumph Rocket 3R, though not an apple to apple comparison with the R18, has a motor which belts out 40% more displacement, producing almost 80% more power and 50% more torque and still manages to weigh over 50 kgs lesser than the R18. The Rocket 3R is priced a lakh lesser than the R18 and looks brilliant too. :D
Even for a poser, I would vote for the Rocket 3R over the R18. However, the protruding engine on the R18 looks amazing in flesh and it totally lends a different character to this motorcycle, truly a drool stuff as a living room art-piece and occasional cafe rides. :thumbs up
The customised BMW R18 called the Spirit of Passion, it's mechanically the same but now has:
- A new fairing with the older Bavarian kidney grille, LED headlight, and a wind deflector
- Different handlebar
- Rear fender
- Tweaked exhaust
- New seat and indicators

Finally saw one on the roads today. Looks bigger in photos but on the road the size seems very manageable. The exhaust note was beautiful. But the most striking was the engine 'guards'
