The Africa Twin powertrain in its current avatar is more than adequate for the Indian off-roading enthusiast. The only thing it lacks is a punchy manual gearbox.

Well that's taken care off according to the article but I don't think Honda will sell both manual and DCT variants together here.

The range of new Africa Twins is set to feature four bikes starting with the manual gearbox CRF1100L A2 and A4, with the A4 variant being more hardcore off-road-oriented Adventure Sports spec. The DCT options will be the CRF1100L D2 and D4, with the D4 being the DCT of the Adventure Sports version.

Not sure why Honda doesn't sell the AT manual in India?

I will say, they need to give better rims. One of my knowns is completely fed up with the punctures, has got stuck multiple times. It should not cost too much for Honda to offer something Tubless.

Agreed, Turbanator sir. This has been a problem with all the Japanese brands recently. India always gets step-motherly treatment and gets the leftovers (toned down models in terms of build quality and cheap cost-cutting measures).

Do you have any evidence to back your claims, ESPECIALLY relating to CBUs.

re: New 1100cc Honda Africa Twin coming soon. Edit: Launched at 15.35 lakhs

I don't think we get left-over models from Jap OEMs. Most models sold here are what are sold all over the globe. OEMs might de-tune the performance but that's to compensate for the inferior fuel quality in most places. In-fact in this case, the DCT CRF1000 ( Africa Twin) is pricier than the MT variant

Tyre/ Tube related punctures can happen if there isn't sufficient air pressure in the tyres and also because of really bad road/ surface. I've experienced this on my FZ1 when I used to keep lower tyre pressures for a comfier ride!

Rims with spokes are difficult to seal completely hence, they don't recommend tubeless tyres on spoke rims.

Dont buy this - lot of ADV bikes have tubeless tyres on spoked rims - VStrom 650, BMW GSA, Multi 950, Multi Enduro, BMW 850 GS/GSA

re: New 1100cc Honda Africa Twin coming soon. Edit: Launched at 15.35 lakhs

It depends on how the rims are sealed to prevent air-loss. The spoke wheels on adventure bikes like BMW's GS and Ducatis use tubeless tires because the spokes attach to the rim outside of the air chamber.
The spoke nipples in a tubeless spoke wheel are in the hub, and in case of the CRF, I think, they fit inside the rim which makes it challenging for a tubeless type setup. You have a way around it by adding a rubber band sealant on to the surface where the spokes fit inside the rim thereby creating an airtight seal.

The first image shows the rim of a Multistrada. Note that there are no visible spoke inlets into the air chamber.

The second image shows how an OEM CRF rim can be "bandaged" from within to create that airtight seal. This is an after-market setup with a different hub and the OEM CRF rims are not tubeless type.

More details are out, thanks to Motorcycle.com -

Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin

The frame appears new, as does the subframe which now appears to be bolted on, making it easier to remove if it gets damaged.

Fully agree
It is understandable that hardcore Dirt Bikes use tube-type spoke wheels for certain benefits. But I keep wondering why cant all manufacturers restrict those spoke wheels for upto 450cc bikes that are DIRT BIKES. Whereas on adventure touring bikes its high time they all change to tubeless spokes. Strangely Honda puts tubeless spoke wheels on that maxi-adventure scooter X-ADV while sticks to these pain in the neck tube-type spoke wheels for the Africa Twin which has always been and still qualifies as a brilliant cross-continental adv touring machine. Or atleast Honda- give tubeless spoke wheels as an option.

Hopefully that dash albeit in smaller size trickles down to 2020 650R. Now all eyes on EICMA as Bautista has confirmed to have jumped ship from Ducati v4 wsbk bike to what is expected to be an all new 210ps Fireblade
