An air cooled 770cc engine, I have my doubts whether it will hold up in the Indian summers. A minimalist and cool retro looking bike. Price is a tad bit on the expensive side considering that there is almost no tech in it and it is competing directly with the Triumph Street Twin.

Kawasaki probably waited way too long on this - the rumours have been going around since 2010.

It is still a beautiful machine with as much old school tech as possible in this day and age, and authentic heritage - but I doubt if there is any market left for it, at all - especially post the RE 650 twins revolution.

The W800 (on specs) seems as basic as the RE 650 twins - but priced too high compared to even Kawasaki India standards (considering all their other offerings). Even in comparison to the Triumph Bonneville, it may be cheaper - but not as VFM or specced. I am sure this will go the Z900RS way with very low (probably single digit) sales.

Looks neat to me, perfect for local commuting but at a price. Let's reserve our views till we see in the flesh

They have a W Heritage site-

https://www.kawasaki-cp.khi.co.jp/w/index_e.html

If we compare International pricing of z900rs vs w800, the difference is more like 30 % whereas here it's priced around half of Z900.

Z900RS is ridiculously priced in India, and an exception in the India Kawasaki lineup, being a CBU.

Pricing is along expected lines if we compare the regular Z900, which is placed almost parallel to the W800 in International markets. But there may not be a market at this price still.

A clean slate and no nonsense design. However, they are extremely late to the party.

Correct but CBU Made in Japan and not Thailand as Imports from Thailand are cheaper than domestic production since last budget.

Do you think they will have enough volumes for CKD production of W800 or are they getting this from Thailand?

Should be Thailand CKD - this will be a very niche product - considering RE650 pricing

I don't see any compelling reason to choose this over the RE 650 twins, which retail at less than half the price. Heck, one can get the Intterceptor AND the GT and still have leftover change for fuel for the price of one of these. And in terms of capability, there wont be much to choose.

The Z900RS was the real deal. That was a great opportunity lost by Kawasaki. If only they had launched that bike at a sub 10L price tag, they would have had another winner on their hands...

Cheers.

Pretty looking, basic and so over priced! This should have priced near the Ninja650 as an alternative. Retro = pricey is some crazy logic that Kawasaki has here.

True that! What a beautiful looking motorcycle it is along with the bullet proof reliability of a modern japanese engine. I'm just hoping an irritated Dealer owner lets one off at half the price! Haha!

Bike looks drool-worthy but is over-priced. The heart wants this, but mind backs out. In fact, the Interceptor should be available in such Matte Black finish.

Very true. I still don't understand how Kawasaki can price the N650 so fantastically and then really screw-up everything else.
