2020 Kawasaki Ninja 650 unveiled. Edit: Launched at 6.24 lakh

Major changes -

  • Supersport looks inspired by the ZX6R (and the Ninja 400)
  • Multi-function 10.9cm colour TFT meter
  • Bluetooth Smartphone connectivity
  • LED lighting front and rear
  • Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres.

Quote:
Supersport looks and lithe response combine with easy and fun handling that is allied to predictable and lively engine response. The Ninja 650 creates an overall sporting package that rewards riders new to the A2 licence category plus those for whom 650cc and a narrow chassis profile are the recipe for the perfect machine.

Engine flexibility from tick-over to the red line and urban manoeuvrability are just two of the Ninja 650’s recognised strong points. The confidence inspiring twin cylinder engine is also an ideal out of town and weekend thrills machine, either solo or with a passenger who will additionally benefit from a revised and comfier rear seat.

Now, for 2020, this lively sports model takes a giant stride forwards with a stunning multi-function 10.9cm colour TFT meter that replaces the previous meter and displays such items as gear position indicator, shift lamp, fuel gauge and Economical Riding Indicator plus other innovations including Bluetooth Smartphone connectivity. Appealing LED lighting front and rear plus Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres are also now fitted as standard.

For a new generation of riders – who would never leave home without their phone – the possibility to connect to their motorcycle is bound to be intriguing. Pairing via Bluetooth is simple and via Kawasaki’s own Rideology App, functions such as GPS route information and schedule service information can be accessed in addition to all the normal familiar notifications. Additionally, the colour display itself can be switched between “positive” and “negative” displays while a built-in light sensor alters brightness intensity.

Fuelling the visual connection with the awesome Ninja H2, the trellis type chassis of the Ninja 650 remains unchanged while reflecting the no-nonsense visual style of the KRT World Superbike. One of three colour options for 2020 will be a lime green/ebony look, evocative of the bikes competing in the World Superbike Championship. Joining this version will be a duo of other fresh options comprising of metallic spark black and a final choice of flat stardust white / metallic flat spark black.

Competition is fierce in the popular mid-capacity sports class and the new uprated and updated Ninja 650 is set to continue its coveted place among the front runners with this well-considered package of innovative and timely updates plus new colour options.

That tft screen is going to get on the versys soon. But where is the versys update? That looks like the only one that hasn’t seen a significant update in about 5 years now.

Very nice, though I have pretty much upgraded to everything, the biggest miss would be the TFT screen, that would be a good addition and make it a worthy competitor again.

True. LED lights as well.

Versys is really due for an update. I'm hoping to see one revealed at EICMA. They had teased 5 bikes for this season.

650 does look imposing now with its sharp front. Hope, they bring in the same face for the ZX10R with LED lights to match up the looks across the range

PS:
Should think of getting a pair of LEDs for my N300 too

Thats a really steep bump for a new dash and LED headlamps. Makes it even more expensive than V650 right ?

Not sure what is going to happen with the Versys 650. It's still BS4.

Ninja 650 costs 20k more than the updated BS6 Z650.

Kawasaki has discontinued the V650 BS4. Giving into the temptation of the BS4 clearance discounts I had booked one, only for the booking (and part down payment) to get cancelled cos Kawasaki had stopped production altogether

The other option was to hold it till the BS6 launches in mid-2020 (but no information was given to the Dealers); so I opted for a refund. The newer models will def be 60-70k costlier.

Looks like Kawasaki had a change of heart post the lock down. Bookings open now, with an ex-showroom price tag of 6.24 lakhs, as against 6.45 announced earlier.

Buoy, the Ninja the 650 the bike the, is launched at 6.24 L ex-showroom

It is a pleasant surprise. I am waiting for Z650 to launch at 6.25 L. That means MY2020 Z650 will be around 6L ex-showroom and on-road could be around 7.5 - 7.7L. Suddenly this looks VFM.

Fingers Crossed.

Are you being facetious? I apologise if you're not, but I don't see how this is value for money. Save 3.5 lakh rupees and keep it for down payment on the Z900/ZX6R/Striple range and buy a 390 ADV. This is one bike where Kawasaki have the pricing horribly wrong.

Don't mean to offend anyone but I find this bike at this price point bonkers.

Street Triple or Z900 are way above my budget. ZX-6R is highly performant comparing Z650 but it requires committed position. I am looking for Naked fighters with FZ-25 like flick-ability with-in my budget for middle weight. So, I fit-in any of CB 650R/MT07 or Z650.

I have driven CBR 650R it is good so CB 650R should be great for my requirements. But, String.reverse("DOG") knows when is any of CB 650R/MT-07 getting to india.

That is okay. But Let's not conclude anything before they officially announce Z650 price. Have fun...!
