Thats fine, I guess, after all this is supposed to be a drag bike not for road use. And may be the visibility is not that bad, I haven't seen a picture with rider sitting on the bike. may be they are afraid

Of course it's for real! It is powered by a 48 cylinder, 4,200cc engine made up from Kawasaki S1/KH-250 cylinders.


The builder's name is Simon Whitlock. He hails from the UK.


Specs
The Kawasaki S1/KH-250 is an inline 3 cylinder 32 bhp engine. With 8 of these together driving a builtup 8-cylinder crankshaft, a 24-cylinder engine was achieved.
Two of these 24-cylinder engines were bolted to a housing, gear linked and fed into a BMW road bike gearbox. Voila! a 48-cylinder 4,200 cc two wheeler !
The engine + gearbox alone weigh more than one ton!

Ignition is by 6x8 cylinder Jaguar E-Type distributors.

A small 75 cc petrol engine serves as a starter to start-up the 4,200 cc power plant.

It is powered by a Rolls-Royce Allison 250-C18 gas turbine engine



The engine puts out 320 bhp@52000 rpm and 425 ft-lb of torque.

After the 2-speed automatic transmission and powertrain, you can still measure 286 bhp at the rear wheel!

The bike is capable of 400 km/h.

The Allison normally powers a Bell 206 JetRanger which weighs 1½ tons fully loaded.



Gas-turbines make extreme power-to-weight ratios possible. But gas turbines do have an inherent throttle lag. The engine can accelerate when letting off the throttle!

Originally designed for helicopters, the Y2K's Allison engine was modified and mounted upside down in the bike's frame.

It feeds on anything that burns. The engine can use many substances as fuel, such as, aviation kerosene, diesel, regular kerosene, etc.

Being a gas turbine engine, the exhaust gas temperature is 650° Celsius.

Rear vision is handled by a rear-view video camera sending video to a color LCD screen mounted in the dash.

The bike rides on Öhlins adjustable oleopneumatic shocks.

Guinness World records calls it the world's most powerful mass-produced motorcycle.

And also the world's most expensive!

PVC pipes melt at 212°Celsius
PTFE (Teflon) melts at 260°Celsius

Lead melts at 327 °C
Zinc melts at 419 °C
Pure aluminium melts at 660 °C. Aluminum-alloy wheels are made of A356.2. That pours at 715 °C.

Ummm.. Ram Sintex tanks are not made out of HD. Infact they are made in LLDPE (Linear Low Density Polyethylene) which melts closer to 120-130 C in a process called (Rotational) Roto-Moulding. I'm also a manufacturer hence, the info.

i wonder how many miles does he get on the tank, plus does the bike auto level itself like the davidsons, i dont see stands on either of the bikes.

This is in Louisiana-biker slang and expression, so for those fellow Team-BHPians who find it hard to follow, let me transcribe...

Welcome to MTT home of the turbine-super-bike. We're located in Franklin, Louisiana down south of the wine country. Come on in and let's see how these things are built.

This is the engine shop. This is where the heart of the Y2K is built. The engine used in the Y2K is out of a Bell JetRanger helicopter.
This engine would typically carry five men, 120 knots forward airspeed, defying gravity. This little engine weighs-in at 138 lb. produces over 320 shaft horsepower.One of the unique things about the engine is: the gas turbine uses fossil fuel that generates expanding gas to drive power turbine wheels.

One of the unique things about turbine engines is their tremendous torque. This engine produces 425 ft.lb. of torque @ 2000 rpm. We're talking the torque of a diesel engine. Torque being the ability of horsepower to do work, this is the little mule that pulls the Y2K down the course.

This is the fabrication shop where we build the components that are coupled to the turbine motorcycle.

Because of the torque this bike generates, this motorcycle is capable of accelerating to over 200 miles an hour in under 15 seconds.

This is the Y2K final assembly. This is where it all comes together. After 3000 man-hours, this is the final product: the Y2K turbine superbike.

We're here at Patterson airport with James Kane of Voodoo racing. James is a professional stunt rider. He has offered to ride the Y2K and see what she's got in her. He was explaining to me that ridin' this bike is like the feelin' of the hand of God grabbing you on your butt and throwing you forward and that's exactly what it is.

That's what I call torque! The Y2K sells for $185,000 and I guess if you say that real fast, that sounds it's bad! But it's not for the faint of heart and you know you've got to be able to stroke the cheque if you want it.

It is a truly street-legal motorcycle and I don't think anyone's just ready to challenge its 250 mph mark but if they are ready and waitin' for a motorcycle for (sort of like) the last bastion of speed, you get on to that, you mean you're the pilot in command. It's no different from flying this helicopter and to describe this, is to say that if you could bottle and sell it, it'd be the most addictive drug in the world!...
