Kawasaki has launched the new special edition version of its middle-weight naked street bike, the Z900, in India. What’s special about this model is that it borrows the new design, updated features and revised hardware from the 2020 Z900, however, the engine is still BS4-compliant. This has helped the brand in pricing it lower at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom), whereas the BS6 model will be priced between Rs 8.5-9 lakhs, as the company had announced a couple of days back.

Kawasaki has just launched the updated 2020 Z900 at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), but in BS4 spec. The company only has a limited supply of these bikes and is only available at this price (only full payment) till March 20. The 2020 model is set to become a lot more expensive (by Rs 50,000-1 lakh) once the BS6 variant is launched closer to April.

- For Rs 30,000 more, you get updated styling, TFT instrumentation, traction control and riding modes.
- The biggest update is the introduction of electronic riding aids such as a three-level Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC) and two power modes – Low and Full. Low power mode chops power to 55 percent of the available 125hp, which makes it useful while riding in slippery conditions, like on rain-soaked roads.
- In addition, the new Z900 also gets four riding modes – Sport, Road, Rain and Rider, with the last one allowing the rider to set the systems as per preferences. This can be done via the new TFT instrument panel interface that also features Bluetooth connectivity, allowing users to pair their smartphone using the Kawasaki Rideology app. The motorcycle also rides on Dunlop’s new Sportsmax Roadsport 2 tyres.

oh boy!! this is literally like a launch with a 60 day window. Does anyone know if something similar might happen with the Ninja 1000 too?
Thanks
EDIT: checked with dealer. I understand that this is actually the Euro 5 (BS6 capable) vehicle. Its just that since it is taking time to homologate they are calling it as BS 4 certified for the time being. I am open to being corrected but I think this is what was explained to me.
Got the below response from a kawasaki representative.
"Ok, just got the info from IKM REPRESENTATIVE, The bike launched at present is EURO5, but in India they r bring it in as Euro 4, as the homologation certificate is still pending for EURO5/BS6. Bike will be exactly the same, with same features and all, but in April, will come under EURO5/BS6 certification with an increased price of around 1 lakh exshowroom."
" MY20 KAWASAKI Z900 LAUNCHED AT AN EXSHOWROOM PRICE OF 7.99LKHS, 10.65LKHS ON ROAD MUMBAI. PRICING IS INTRODUCTORY. MAKE THE BEST OF THE ULTIMATE NAKED SPORTS."
Z900 is their best seller - and Kawasaki probably doesn't want to stop sales for two months for the paperwork to complete.
Good deal for buyers waiting for the updated Z.

This is the updated Z. Its the BS VI variant but its called BS IV till homologation is done by the rto and it gets certified as BS VI. They are keeping the prices low till it gets the certification. Post April the same bike will be sold for almost 1 lakh more

So just a ~30K increase? Great job Kawasaki!
This has to be the best bang for buck sports-bike. Don't @ me.
That’s a euro 5 engine not yet homologated for bs4. Killer deal.

Call me stupid, but if everything else will remain the same why would the prices increase by 1L post the homologation?
At this price point Z900 is the perfect do it all SBK.

Presently they are absorbing the extra costs, they don't want to hold the sales until they get BS6 certificate. The are cutting their margins to continue the sales and momentum, post homologation they will switch to healthy/better margins mode!
