re: Dreams do come true : 5 years & 30000 kms with my Triumph Tiger 800 XR

Wow, amazing trip and pics. And congrats on achieving the 25k miles too. This is what the Tiger is really meant to do ( not that the other motorcycles are not meant too).

So I have a few questions,
1. After such long ride, what needs to be done to the motorcycle. Does it need any special service or just a general service?
2. Do filters need to be cleaned or changed?
3. What about the suspension - any Specific maintenance or oil change required ?
4. what components or parts need to be changed?

Thanks a lot v12.

The Tiger's reliability and abuse-friendly nature ensures that a lot of abuse does not usually pinch the pocket. So no special care is really needed post a long ride IMO.

However, going for a general check-up always helps to ensure things are in place. It helps to get the engine oil (plus filter), coolant levels and air filter checked / changed.

Throttle body cleaning, clutch cable, brake pads and drivechain / sprockets can also be checked for any abnormal wear.

After I got back from the Saach Pass ride, the first thing I checked were the brake pads and fluid levels and these seem to be fine. There is however a very faint and minor noise when I turn the handlebar at idle or when the motorcycle is on main stand and the front wheel is off the ground. So I need to check if there is any abuse to the cone sets and maybe fork oil needs replacement as well so I need to check that as well.

Everything else seems to be in order after inspection. I am planning to get the cone set / fork oil checked soon and the rest can be taken care of during the annual service due in February. I do not foresee much riding in the next 3-4 months as I would have to be frequently away for work and the cold foggy North Indian winters will anyway restrict early morning rides. Add to that, I won't get leaves from work either. At best I can do riding over weekends so that rules out longer rides.

For someone who does frequent long rides, it helps if you get one (or more depending on kilometres clocked) mid-year general check-up done even if the service intervals are annual. It also helps if such a general check-up is done before one proceeds for a roadtrip in which more than usual abuse to the motorcycle is foreseen (For example, Spiti or remote corners of North East or similar). One more thing that needs to be checked is any damage to wheels that may arise out of an unexpected undulation on a spirited highway run or due to abuse over ruts and trails.

Lastly, there is nothing better than preventive maintenance. Getting wear and tear parts checked or replaced (as the case may be) before scheduled timelines works wonders in the long-term.

re: Dreams do come true : 5 years & 30000 kms with my Triumph Tiger 800 XR

The New Year's first ride was a lovely 703 kms day trip to Sambhar Lake near Jaipur with four more rider friends from NCR. We had couple of Tiger 800XRs, a Bonneville T120, a 390 Adventure and a XPulse with Rally Kit in the group.

Although the Delhi - Jaipur road was quite a bummer as the truck traffic was insane, unexpected potholes were aplenty and add to that the biting winter wind as well as the dusty conditions really made our progress slow. The return leg was after dark and the nuisance of random trucks parked on the fast lane without lights were truly a frightening sight.

However, this was still a memorable ride for all of us and we totally got our fill while riding over the salt flats of Sambhar.

Total riding time was approximately 10 hours ex New Delhi.

Some pictures from the ride

re: Dreams do come true : 5 years & 30000 kms with my Triumph Tiger 800 XR

Completed 4 years of ownership with the Tiger 800 and it has been a wonderful journey so far. The odo reads a little over 27300 kms.

Dreams do come true : 5 years & 30000 kms with my Triumph Tiger 800 XR-img_20220130_09281401.jpeg

The annual service was done last week at the One Triumph service centre in Gurgaon. Not any tantrums to report but the front right-hand side fork was leaking so needed an overhaul and a new seal.

I had heard about some negative bits about the One Triumph service centre recently however my personal experience was quite good.

Sharing a few pictures of the worn out front brake pads and a dusty air filter which was replaced during the service.

re: Dreams do come true : 5 years & 30000 kms with my Triumph Tiger 800 XR

I did a couple short rides around town and the odo reads slightly over 28300 km as of now. No issues to report, however I got the battery replaced last week with a new Yuasa unit from One Triumph Gurgaon. The stock Yuasa battery lasted these 28300 km and had served well over the past 4.5 years.

I am also in the market for new tyres as the current set has lasted around 14000 kms and is now due for a replacement. However tyre availability is still a concern but I'm in touch with most dealers in NCR and shall get new set of Metzeler Tourance Next or Metzeler Tourance soon.

Also, there is an ongoing free monsoon health checkup camp at One Triumph Gurgaon till 31st July wherein fluid levels will be checked and topped up if required, filters shall be checked and cleaned if required. I'm planning to get this health checkup done sometime next week. More on this later !

Some pictures of the motorcycle I clicked recently -

I had ordered my set of Metzeler Tourance for my 800 XRX, which has finally landed and should be with me in a week or less.

My tyre dealer has just received this batch so if you need I can connect him to you assuming its practicable for him to ship from Bombay to NCR - in case he has spare sets still to sell.

Let me know if you’d like to be connected.

I have tried the stock xcx tyres(Bridgestone Battle wings), Metzeler Karoo3(50-50 offroad tyre), Metzeler Tourance next(pure highway tyre) and Michelin Anakee(70-30) and felt Anakee was the best set I ever had, bit noisy between 105 to 110 but amazing cornering grip, superb on sand and gravel, Tigers best potential can be explored with Anakee without any doubt.

I had plans to go on a long ride last week and due to unavailability of Metzeler Tourance Next, settled for a set of 2022 make Pirelli Scorpion Trail II. However, the ride didn't take shape due to some exigency at work sadly.

I have done around ~ 300 km on the Scorpion Trail II including couple of trail rides. So far, so good. The Tourance Next is probably more confidence inspiring however the Pirellis are not too far behind.

Some pictures of a trail ride that I did with a bunch of friends earlier today. We did the Summer Sprint and Panikot Lake trail from Gurgaon and joined back GFR from Mangar village. Overall fun ride, and I am pleasantly happy with the tyres !

Apologies for not replying to this post. Great to know your origins are from Bhilai, it is beautiful city. Pity that I haven't been able to revisit the city since my last trip in 2018. And yes the Pune gang is great, Vinay is a dear friend. We have shared a great camaraderie over the years and I have thoroughly enjoyed riding with him. Here's my favourite click of both our Tigers together, this one has been clicked at Masai Plateau near Panhala Fort.

I was getting the Tourance here in NCR as well, but somehow the Tourance Next was the tyre I was after. I usually do highway runs and trail rides happen only few and far between. I was somehow smitten by the Tourance Nexts and desperately wanted those. However, either tyres were unavailable or dealers were quoting atrocious prices so I couldn't settle for a pair of Tourance Next. The Scorpion Trail II was not something in my radar, as I had my own doubts about their competence. But must say, I am pleased with the tyres. However it is still break-in period, shall comment on the ability of these tyres once I clock up more miles.

re: Dreams do come true : 5 years & 30000 kms with my Triumph Tiger 800 XR

Completed 5 years of ownership with Bagheera earlier this month, on March 1st.

5 years, 30000 kms, multiple rides across 13 states (and couple of UTs) and so many sweet memories from every ride I have done - the Tiger 800 has been a fuss-free and reliable companion so far.

There are so many pictures from so many rides that it is difficult to document each of them in this thread. However, I've tried to post as many as I can, for memories sake. Here's one such click of yours truly with the Tiger, taken somewhere around Satrundi in Himachal Pradesh back in September 2021.

Re: Dreams do come true : 5 years & 30000 kms with my Triumph Tiger 800 XR

Recently I got the 5th year annual servicing done for the Tiger 800. I was facing minor issue with front fork leakage and could evidently feel that the steering was a little off. So apart from fluids and filters, the fork seal, dust seal, caliper rubber, front sprocket, brake pads and steering bearing were replaced.

Total pinch to the pocket was approximately INR 32,000. The motorcycle runs as good as new now and is ready to munch up some miles !

Re: Dreams do come true : 5 years & 30000 kms with my Triumph Tiger 800 XR

Did a short ride to Champawat, Chaukori and Bhimtal over 2.5 days from Delhi. The summer heat was bothersome in the plains but the situation was a lot more bearable up in the hills.

Route Details -

Day 1: New Delhi - Rampur - Rudrapur - Banbasa - Champawat - Lohaghat - Chaukori (570 kms over 10 hrs including multiple breaks)

Day 2: Chaukori - Dhaulchina - Barechhina - Almora - Bhimtal (170 kms over 4 hrs including couple of breaks)

Day 3: Bhimtal - Haldwani - Rudrapur - Rampur - New Delhi (310 kms over 3.5 hrs including one fuel stop)
