To me pinch point is the "hiding" away these charges under the garbs of "RTO, xyz". If they just clearly mention it as handling/transport charges it will be clear and raise concerns. If it is legit and the manufacturer approves they can just have it displayed at the dealerships authorised by the manufacturer.

Whole point being that if something is hidden it won't be found or fixed. If its out in the open, someday someone will have to take notice and act upon it. But just my opinion.

Just a matter of which bitter pill to swallow - inflated by company, or inflated by dealer!

Despite the markup by the dealer, the inflated road tax on the Trident is still 9k cheaper than the CB650. Insurance is 2k cheaper too! Markups by the dealer can be negotiated, markups by the company can't be - and they correspondingly affect every other component!

good one.
So everyone is trying to fleece the "emotional enthusiast". And I am not even talking about the CB500X here.

One of those things where you run out of words, probably from the aftertaste of the bitter pill you just mentioned

Re: 2021 Triumph Trident 660 unveiled. Edit: Now launched at 6.95 lakhs

I think what you are saying is handling charges. I'm still ok with convenience fee of 3k for RTO handling. But this is ridiculously high 20k.

Also I'm told that RTO tax is 12%.for Mumbai but online says 7% and 14% for cbu units.

Now, definitely it's not possible it's 14%and dealer taking 12%.

For 6.95l paying 8.43 that's 20% markup is

Only resort or consolation would be to negotiate that if I pay 8.42l then need receipt of full amount paid.

Atleast legit tho hoga
Cheers

Once dealer uploads the documents, it still has to go through traditional officer scrutiny (bribe) or things won’t move. I have personally seen the delays and fuzz created by this system while trying to get the just launched 390 Adv in 2020. It’s the principal dealer in BLR who had to go and sort it out and arrive at the arrangement. FYI 2500 is current ktm adv 390 charge in BLR.

We have a dedicated thread also on this systemic issue. Not gonna blame Triumph or dealer for this, they are not doing anything about it just like the whole automobile industry.
Honda Big wings doesn’t do this for sure. I even heard that PVR Vijayawada Triumph doesn’t do this. And there may be a few more. Kudos to all these dealers.

Even if majority of the dealers inflate the RTO, there can be no justification for this plain illegal and unethical practise.

Let’s make it very simple -
1) It is very much legal for the manufacturer to fix a price on the product he makes.
2) It is very much illegal for a manufacturer to sell anything over MRP. Period !!!

Whether Honda has priced their products correctly or not is a different debate. Even I too feel not so good about their pricing. At least they have been transparent enough in their pricing. Irrespective of their strategy, are they doing anything illegal in their pricing ?. Nothing !!! That’s the main point of debate. Let us bash Honda for their pricing in a separate thread(just my suggestion), but let’s not allow this illegal stuff to go unnoticed.

Having said that, I am more interested in seeing if Triumph India is able to make the correction. Let’s wait and see how things pan out this time.

Well said and you are right. But you have said it subtly.
But being from automobile industry, I can confidently say that some of the OEMs include handling charges as part of Dealer Margin. This results in higher insurance and Road Tax.
When the Supreme Court banned OEMs from taking handling charges, they were made part of ex-showroom price slowly.
So once you are used to getting more per vehicle as a dealer, you find other ways to get the same amount albiet through a different route.

Re: 2021 Triumph Trident 660 unveiled. Edit: Now launched at 6.95 lakhs

Saw the Triumph Trident 660 in flesh at One Triumph, Gurgaon, a while back.

First impressions are that the Trident looks quite compact and the instrument cluster feels pretty barebones. However, the motorcycle looks beautiful. It is compact, yet has decent presence and attitude. The cycle parts are of top notch quality and the inline triple sounds quite good at idle. No test rides allowed at the moment, but is expected to commence soon once the demo motorcycle arrives in about a week's time.

Looking forward to see the Trident in matte grey + red paint option.

Here are a few pictures of the Trident 660 from One Triumph, Gurgaon -

Thanks for sharing. Is it visually any smaller than Street Triple or about the same?

Re: 2021 Triumph Trident 660 unveiled. Edit: Now launched at 6.95 lakhs

Hello All,

This is my first post in Team Bhp, but have been following passively for a very long time. Thought this is the right time to join the discussion.

I have been looking to upgrade from my Duke 200 since last 2 years. The options were Kawasaki Z650, Street Triple R, BMW F900R. But when the Trident was launched last year, it ticked most of my points - a bike for daily usage as well as occasional long rides (maybe some adjustments required here).

So all in all, I booked the Trident(Silver Red) back in December as the booking amount is refundable. Now waiting eagerly for the test ride before I make my complete payment. The international reviews look promising, so I hope I like it as well.

The only downside is I live in Coimbatore and the nearest dealer is in Kochi. Would this be a problem during the long term?

Cheers

Visually a little smaller than the Street Triple but cleaner lines lend it a lot of character.

Congratulations. And not a big issue since I believe they do camps for nearby cities. Kochi is one of the better dealers also, though there were some misses recently. So for a new bike I don’t think a big issue. Look at the bright side, you can take a quick ride to Cochin for service but ya those speed cams!!

Looking forward to a review soon.

If I were you, I wouldn’t worry too much. After all, it’s once/yr service (hardly any chance that you’ll cross 16k km service interval quoted by Triumph + it’s impractical to go yr+ without service).

These bikes don’t break much, unless you end up with lemon!

Triumph Chennai and Kochi both have a handful of customers in Coimbatore. They organize monthly service visits for a nominal charge. Your yearly service will be done at your doorstep or a partner garage. Once your warranty expires, there are a few trusted FNGs to take care of Triumphs

Make sure to get the RSA with the bike. In case of breakdown, they will ship it to the Triumph Service center of your choice.

Happy riding.

Now I get why the rear grab rails are not an accessory in India. Maybe the Indian version comes with the rear grab rails as standard I guess based on these clicks.

The matte grey with red paint is indeed the eye catchy one among all color options.
