The bike sources power from a newly developed water/oil-cooled 4 cylinder inline 999 cc engine based on the S 1000 RR's powertrain. It has been rated to develop a maximum output of 212 hp at 14,500 rpm and a peak torque of 113 Nm at 11000 rpm. The bike sprints across the 0-100 line in just 3.1 seconds and is capable of achieving a top speed of 306 km/h.

It will be available as a CBU product and it can be booked at all BMW Motorrad India dealerships from Thursday onwards.

Quote:
Mr. Vikram Pawah, President BMW Group India, said, “The all-new BMW M 1000 RR is born on the racetrack and stands for absolute dedication and the will to perform. Based on BMW M philosophy it is built with passion and offers pure racing technology for the highest performance demands in motorsport and adrenaline-driven perfectionists on the road."

Re: 2021 BMW M 1000 RR launched at Rs 42 lakhs

Phew, some pricing that.

The version priced at 42 lacs must be feeling bad as it apparently can not compete, as it missed out competition name

Re: 2021 BMW M 1000 RR launched at Rs 42 lakhs

Truly an eye watering price. I am just curious how many takers will will it find outside of the poseur crowd. Because for a genuine rider this means he should be someone who regularly rides on a track (there are several who do) and also have the skills to do at least some justice to that spec sheet.

I suspect however that some of these will simply find their way into the hands of weekend poseur riders of varying skills sets from great to ordinary.

Re: 2021 BMW M 1000 RR launched at Rs 42 lakhs

45 lakhs for 212 bhp. 0-100 in 3.1 seconds. Top speed 306 km/h.

For a moment, thought I was reading this as yet another car launch

Now a "M" performance badge for motorbikes too!
Is this the first time that BMW has plonked the M lineage on a bike?

Pretty sure the higher-spec variant named "Competition" will stay true to its name, it has already outcompeted some of its cousin cars (or siblings, for the lack of words) by virtue of its sheer specs!

Re: 2021 BMW M 1000 RR launched at Rs 42 lakhs

So the Pro M Sport S1000RR is 23.75 Lacs Ex-Showroom which does 207 bhp at lower RPM (13,500 compared to 14,500 RPM) and also similar 113 Nm torque. The price difference is amazingly huge, it ideally only makes sense for an hardcore racer for everyone else including the posers the Pro M sport is anyway more then enough.

This still feels reasonable compared to those Ducati Italian CBUs (older Panigale 1199 and the Superleggera)

Re: 2021 BMW M 1000 RR launched at Rs 42 lakhs

First, nobody is going to take this to the track.
Second, the bike doesn't pull any strings on you. The Italians' price can be somewhat justified as at least a living room showpiece.
Third, the current-gen BMW Motorrad doesn't have the same track-racing pedigree as the Japanese or the Italian counterparts (WSBK, MotoGP). No bragging rights there for the buyers of this expensive ///M Motorcycle.

Lastly - them sticking ///M on this motorcycle reminds me of the song Kya Se Kya Ho Gaya from the movie GUIDE.

Don't underestimate the Kawi! The ZX10R (RR actually) has more wins at WSBK than BMW Motorrad as a team ever did.

It’s not a ‘sticker’ job. The engine is blueprinted by the famous ‘M’ division. The internals are significant upgrade compared to the RR version. A revised chassis and wheel base, upgraded brakes, bodywork with winglets round out the ‘M’ package.

Just as genuine M5 is quite different pedigree from 5 series so is this bike from 1000RR. While one may find this bike to be expensive, so is M5 vis-a-vis the 5 series. It’s not a replacement for the 1000RR, it’s for people who want something exclusive.

Well on one hand you can argue that 'M' is so diluted that it doesn't matter where they put that badge anymore. On the other hand - you can also argue what product deserves an 'M' badge.

If they bring in a new model for 2021, and a couple of other variants of it, with upgrades, are they just variants or different models altogether (M and non-M)?

Comparing M5/5-series and M1000/S1000 is false equivalence since the M division subsidiary was initially created to facilitate BMW’s motorsport program during the 1960s and 1970s. They make CARS, not Motorcycles.

On the other hand, HRC sticking their name on a commuter Motorcycle may make sense because they race on the track, M division doesn't compete on 2-wheels. Therefore - it's a sticker/badge job. Upgrade - Yes. Does putting an 'M' makes sense - Not sure.

But then BMW stuck an 'M' on X3 , at least the M1000 is racier. That's the irony, and part or the former argument made above.

As I mentioned before, ‘it’s not just a sticker job’. That BMW has used ‘M’ badges so superficially in its marketing, does not take away from the fact that they roped in the ‘M’ division to make 500 nos of M1000RR for homologation of WSBK and WSS rules. The engines are blueprinted by the ‘M’ division. Just because ‘M’ division was initially started out as car racing development division does not mean that they cannot use the division for their bike racing program. In fact, it’s sensible to tap into the group’s knowledge bank to create something that would make them serious contenders in two wheel racing world.

Anyway, it’s also a matter of perspectives. I would buy a Ford Focus RS any day versus a plain vanilla BMW 5 series.
