Re: Honda CBR650R launched at Rs. 7.70 lakh

The ex-showroom has now gone above the on-road price of the previous version. Great pricing on Honda's part to make products sink into oblivion gradually. Pricing of CB500X and now this. Honda was selling around 40-50 units a year with the previous versions and on some rare occasion maybe 100 units a year but they won't even reach the previous numbers with this pricing. The price has slowly gone up from 7.3L to 7.54L to 7.7L to 8.88L in just a couple of years time. Can get a used, well maintained Ninja 1000 at 7-8 lakhs instead or even a used CBR650F or a CBR650R at even lesser price.

All the talks of cheaper spare, available consumables, better spares availability and cheaper service make sense only if the Honda tax is atleast somewhat justified. With the recent pricing, a prospective buyer would even think of stepping into the showroom to inquire about the bike forget about booking or buying one.

Re: Honda CBR650R launched at Rs. 7.70 lakh

Some positives on the launch

- The naked version is finally here! I always felt bad they never launched the naked bike here.

- Suspension has been upgraded new 41mm Showa USD forks and the rear has a new Separate Function Big Piston (SFF BP) which should help the handling of the bike.

- Led lighting all around and new dash which improves legibility.

- Not sure if the old bike had it but the new one has a USB charger built in as standard.

Negatives

- Price has really gone up but there have been new feature additions to somewhat justify the price.

- We still get the detuned 85 bhp 57 nm torque engine which sucks as in this price range the Z900 and Street Triple 765 r offer a lot more power. This is just a bit better than a Ninja 650 which is priced a lot less.

- Still no TFT screen which could have been a differentiator from the more powerful competition.

Re: Honda CBR650R launched at Rs. 7.70 lakh

Wow, the CB650R is a sweet surprise, but at ₹10+ lakhs on-road, it is an extremely hard purchase to justify. The Street Triple R is only ₹17k more, and the Z900 is around ₹50k less. Not to mention the impending launch of the much-lauded Trident 660, which it expected to be priced at around ₹8.5L on-road.

Re: 2021 Honda CB650R and CBR650R launched at 8.67 & 8.88 lakhs

The problem with this is not just the price in itself. It’s really the overall specs combined with the price. While it ticks the inline 4 box, the fact is both the Z900 and even the Street Triple R would convincingly outgun this bike and provide an overall more exciting bike for comparable money. And performance does get closely considered as an important aspect in this naked / semi-faired segment. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Trident actually feels comparable in performance (will await the ride reviews) and if its priced much lower, this 650 will feel the heat from both ends of Triumph - the 660 as well as the 765 R.

The power to weight of both the above will be better / much better than the Honda 650. Used Honda 650 owners might be smiling the way last lot BS4 V Strom purchasers might have been when the 2020/21 version of the V Strom got launched. This is going to help their resale values a bit I suppose.

Re: 2021 Honda CB650R and CBR650R launched at 8.67 & 8.88 lakhs

Great job launching 2 new bikes for 2021.
Bad job pricing them.
Result : Dead on arrival.

I guess the competition to the CBR650R is the ZX6r and thats what they are aiming at. The 2021 zx6r is yet to be launched here in india. Iam guessing by the price of the 10r here we will be in for a suprise with the 6r for sure. As for the 650r its just going to be a slow death.

They already killed the CBR 1000rr in india with its pricing. These 2 models are next in line.
WAKE UP HONDA INDIA.

Pricing on road Bangalore is a hair under 11 lakhs.

2 Colors each for the bikes. Although the palette used for the CB650R is the 2020 edition, not the 2021 edition with the body colored front fender and the trademark Jeans Blue is missing.

Really glad that Honda finally launched the naked 650. Could have been a lot better priced, though.

PS: Leaving you guys with what were, at one time, my mobile and desktop wallpapers.

That road tax doesn't look right or maybe it is the addition of the number below as well, with insurance also listed in the end.

Sorry state of pricing, it now makes sense to buy a decent pre owned bike and keep it for long. Rising prices of fuel, rising prices of bikes, rising price of gears and accessories and salary raise is by peanuts, life keeps getting difficult

Hi @NoSugarNoSpice, seems like the road tax and insurance numbers were interchanged in the price break-up you'd posted. I've attached the corrected image below:

Wow ! Thanks for sharing these images @S15! It is a beautiful motorcycle indeed. I especially love the way the exhaust headers are stacked together. Sad that it is priced so high. A sub-9 lakh on-road price would have made it a great pick for those looking to pop their inline-4 cherry (I'm one of those). I do hope it finds more than a handful of buyers though.

Cheers!

Edit: I almost forgot about Aprilia's upcoming 660 twins. Considering their intended price, Honda's 650 twins seem like a steal ! But can they be compared to each other? I know that the Aprilias pack more power and a ton of electronics, but is it enough to justify their ridiculously high asking price?

Damn!!! Honda is becoming the Toyota of bikes. Charging the customers heavily upfront in cost and then giving them happiness over the years with lesser service bills

500X and now these two. From 7.7L to 8.8L is a steep rise.

Re: 2021 Honda CB650R and CBR650R launched at 8.67 & 8.88 lakhs

Honda actually made a mistake bringing the CB650R IMHO. CBR was priced against the Z900 and the STriple, but people used to cut it some slack for being the only faired version in the price bracket.

But now with the naked version launched, a direct comparison is inevitable.

Comparing the CB650R with the Z900 -

- Displacement 299cc
- Power 29.9 hp
- Torque 35.6 Nm.
- Traction control
- Riding modes / Power modes

+ 50k in pricing

This is something only Honda can even try! In many ways (including styling), the CB650R is a rival for the Trident rather than the Street Triple R/Z900 - but Honda has surely given a good price advantage to the Triumph even before it is launched.

Re: 2021 Honda CB650R and CBR650R launched at 8.67 & 8.88 lakhs

Wow! 11 lakhs for CBR 650R is quite pricey. I just got a call from Kawasaki dealership and the OTR for the Ninja 1000 is 1432000. I'm sure that will reduce with good bargaining. So with 3L more one can get a proper litre-class,inline-4 bike with state of the art electronics. The only downer being the service and spare parts.

I find it hard to justify buying a brand new CBR at these prices, I'm sure the present owners are smiling!

Re: 2021 Honda CB650R and CBR650R launched at 8.67 & 8.88 lakhs

Nice to see the CB650R finally make its way to Indian shores. I have long felt that Honda missed a trick by not launching its naked option in our market. It may not be most exciting bike in its segment but it will have its takers for sure.

Im not sure why anyone is surprised by Honda's pricing. This is exactly where I expected them to position these bikes. Im just surprised they took so long to launch these Euro 5 / BS6 bikes.

- When the CBR650F was launched in 2015, it was priced much higher than its middleweight competition from Triumph and Kawasaki. At that time too, the specifications didnt hold up against its competition. And everyone said Honda wont sell any bikes.
- Prices of all these big bikes have undeniably shot up a lot with the move to BS6. The Z900 is around Rs 11L OTR here in Kerala. The Triumph is more.
- In 2021, Honda has again priced its middleweight options at a premium against its competition, this time a little more sensibly than in 2015.
- As we have seen from their track record, Honda doesnt seem to be in the game of importing 1,000 units of superbikes and then struggling to service them.
- Honda will likely sell all the units of these middleweights that they import.
- Honda owners will be happy.
- Honda dealers will be happy.
- Honda's leadership will be happy.

At the end of the day, its another great option for us as customers. Sure, it may not appeal to 9 out of 10 enthusiasts here or in the real world, but that 10th person will be super excited to bring home an inline 4 from Honda.
