@Neil - this is gold. Judging by the dimensions and that its based on the Trident platform, I don't think pillion riding will be its forte. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

This may well be the thought process behind the decision, but I think pillion comfort is something they could have offered across the range without cannibalizing sales, if the 660 platform allows it.

The bigger Tigers could still be differentiated with ride modes, better tech, bigger engine etc. IMO, customers who can afford the current Tiger wouldn't want to compromise on these to save some money, while people on a tighter budget looking for their first big bike is unlikely to stretch the budget by 5-6 lakhs to get the 850 instead of the 660, just for pillion comfort. More likely they will look elsewhere.

Re: Triumph Tiger Sport 660 teased

Quite possibly the only bike you need. In India. Need, not want. 80 odd bhp, triple engine and triumphs are generally not too heavy. What's not to like. Maybe the rear seat. Not too sharp brakes (by the looks of it they aren't top notch), not top spec suspension and quite possibly the ground clearance won't be adventure category. But, unless you are doing proper off road, you don't need the 19/21 tyres and the crazy ground clearance, in fact if you are doing proper off road, it is always better to take something lighter rather than a really heavy and really expensive pseudo adventure bikes passing off as dirt bikes.

While cost and comparisons will keep on happening, you have to remember that the other bikes in this category are really old gen, except of course CB500X, which is a good kid aborted due to reasons only known to Honda senior management.

Which brings me to the best thing about thing bike, by next year both Suzuki and Kawasaki will be forced to get their fingers out and update their bikes, wich is going to be brilliant for consumers across the price range.

P.S: Triumph can and should price this bike agressively, after all the cost of development isn't that much, it is effectively using quite a lot of parts from the older street triple. And, I personally think this is a far more apt bike for this country than the Trident. Price it well and this could outsell the new street triple and tiger combined.

Re: Triumph Tiger Sport 660 teased

Looks great. Good job, Triumph!

If this 660 Sport is intended to be used as a sport tourer, it needs to have more suspension travel both at the front and the rear.

Giving it the same suspension components/travel as the Trident with just a revised front fairing/wind-screen is a bit lazy.

It doesn't matter if there's a 20-30k price increase towards the increased suspension travel, but it's necessary to adequately differentiate this bike from the Trident.

Re: Triumph Tiger Sport 660 teased

I don't think this compares to adv bikes like Versus and CB500X very well. It's going to have limited go anywhere ability unless the GC has been increased. Someone pointed out the exhaust to me a couple of days ago and that's a bummer! This to me should take the Ninja650 head-on though and be priced around that. Triumph's use of Tiger name here seems to have worked though. We are already comparing it to Versys and CB500X

I think we should avoid judgement on the ground clearance till the bike is launched. The Versys 1000 has 150mm of ground clearance and people who use the bike don't complain of any ground clearance issues.

The Trident has a lot of features that the vanilla Ninja 650 lacks. Also the Ninja 650 at 135mm of ground clearance is a big problem.

If people buying this bike use it for on road touring it can be a good bet.

People seem to forget this bike has almost double the power of the Cb500x. At around 80 bhp it's very close in power to the bigger Tiger 850 Sport

Re: Triumph Tiger Sport 660 teased

I somehow feel this will be priced in the Vstrom territory (~11L on-road Mumbai) rather than the Versys 650 (9L on-road Mumbai).

A difference of 2 L might not seem much, but crossing the million rupee mark for a motorcycle is still a mental block for an average Indian buyer.

At 10-11 L this can probably be the one filling the 3 cylinder void between Trident at 8.3L and the 14L Tiger Sport.

I really hope that the new Triumph 660 is correctly priced somewhere around 30-50k(on road differenced) over the Trident, that would really make it a sweet preposition.

If priced correctly, the Major difference between a Versys buyer and Triumph buyer would be the extra cylinder on the Triumph and the space for pillion on the Versys.

2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 global debut soon

Triumph Motorcycles will take the wraps off the all-new Tiger Sport 660 on October 5, 2021. The Tiger Sport 660 is based on the Triumph Trident 660, which is Triumph's most affordable motorcycle on sale.

Triumph Motorcycles is all set to reveal the Tiger Sport 660 on October 5, 2021. The good news is that the middleweight adventure touring bike will be launched in India as well, possibly in the first half of 2022. The Tiger Sport 660 is based on the same frame as the Trident 660 and gets the same 660 cc triple engine as well. Triumph gave a peek into the looks and design of the Tiger Sport 660, by putting up a photograph of the front end of the motorcycle on social media. The focus with the Tiger Sport 660 is on touring, rather than off-roading. Triumph has confirmed that there is a Tiger 660 Rally in the works, which is likely to be revealed in 2022.

Re: Triumph Tiger Sport 660 teased

Looks quite promising.. Game on Versys 650 and V-strom 650, this should be sitting between them in terms of pricing I hope.

Edit: just saw the above post, I was probably too wishful with pricing considering Trident's price.

Some more images -

Looks like a brilliant proposition - but seems to be lacking space with a pillion also on board.

Re: Triumph Tiger Sport 660 teased

Bike looks really good but that low ground clearance and no centre stand on ADV bike is a big omission/issue?

Also, what Shumi said for the top box makes sense as its positioned so high and far out that it will really mess around with the centre of gravity and affect the handling in corners.

Re: Triumph Tiger Sport 660 teased

This is positioned at 8450 pounds UK, and the Tiger 800 sport is at 9200 pounds.

At a difference of just 750 pounds (75,000 Rs) why should one go for the Tiger 660 and not the bigger more capable 800.

Also this is not really a competition to the Versys 650 which sits at 8.5xx L on-road and 16bhp and a cylinder less, UNTILL triumph prices this very competatively. However, my speculation is, this bike would still touch 10L on-road in India.

Another fantastic a middle-weight ADV, with a big price tag, first being the Suzuki Storm 650.

I suppose it would find fewer buyers than the Tiger 800 sport.

Re: Triumph Tiger Sport 660 teased

Somehow Im not excited by the Tiger Sport 660. And why showcase it in October when deliveries will only start in UK in February 2022? At best, we would see the bikes in India in April 2022. All the sizzle and excitement will die out by the time buyers get their hands on the bikes.

While the motorcycle is feature packed, thanks to it's 8/10 sizing (driven by the fear of cannibalization), the Tiger Sport will probably exist in no-mans land and will be another victim of Triumphs muddling global strategy. And that is even before we come to its pricing.

Building on what iamahunter said, here are the prices of the Triumph bikes in the UK.
Trident 660 : GBP 7,395
Street Triple S : GBP 8,100
Tiger Sport 660 : GBP 8,450
Street Triple R : GBP 9,300
Tiger 850 Sport : GBP 9,400

So its positioned to perfectly fit the gap between the base Trident and the entry level Tiger 850 Sport, while also sandwiching the entry and middle Street Triple models Street Triple.

Now lets come to the potential Indian pricing.
- Trident 660 : Rs 6.95 L
- Street Triple S : Discontinued
- Tiger Sport 660 : Rs 8.25 L to 8.5 L (my guess)
- Street Triple R : Rs 9.41 L
- Tiger 850 Sport : Rs 11.95 L

When we compare it to its rivals, this is what things look like.
- Honda CB500X : Rs 6.87 L
- Triumph Trident 660 : Rs 6.95 L
- Kawasaki Versys 650 : Rs 7.15 L
- Tiger Sport 660 : Rs 8.25 L to 8.5 L (my guess)
- Suzuki VStrom 650 : Rs 8.84 L
- Kawasaki Versys 1000 : Rs 11.55 L
- Triumph Tiger 850 : Rs 11.95 L

The Versys 650 and VStrom 650 are probably going to be bigger bikes, visually and are well established in India. Yes, you are getting a triple for the cost of a twin, but if space is an issue, then is it really a valid option? I fear that there are tough days ahead for the new Tiger Sport 660.
