Turbo-charging my Harley Davidson Fat Bob

Added Dyna Fat Bob to the family, it's a 2013 96cu in pre-loved one with 43k on the odo. It has V&H slipons with very nice sound and burble, HD original oil cooler already installed amongst other smaller things. It also has some leather saddle bags which are fairly new, but I will remove them as i dont like how they look and cover all the nice shiny bits of entire rear end.
Bike has some problems to it which are being taken care.
Main issues are busted fuel pump, fuel pressure is below 40psi while it should be 56-58psi. So it is running very poorly with lots of miss fires and starting trouble.
Both front forks are leaking, one of the rear is also leaking.
Owner was running pillar to post but just couldn't get this thing sorted out, everyone was milking him as he himself was not very technically inclined. Already paid for fork rebuild and they started leaking again almost immediately. Was told that since new fork fluid was put it, excess of it will come out for a few days and then it will stop leaking after a while.
People were suggesting ECU change for starting trouble, wiring loom change and what not. He spent nearly 70k in last one year and got only 800km of riding in the entire year.

So he approached me to fix the bike which later got converted to a sale offer and we struck a deal.

Now that the motorcycle is mine, it is getting Turbocharged for sure and soon. I am on a shopping spree and most of the parts are already on the way.
In the mean time, front forks are getting new fork seals and fork oil, fuel pump is being replaced with a brand new unit, whole bike has a clear polymer wrap installed which is showing it's age, so that wrap has to go and then original paint can be polished to it's shining glory.

I did some basic math on the engine numbers and with 17.7 lbs/min NA airflow at 6000rpm, selected a Garrett Gt2252 turbo. That should fall in pretty high efficiency band at 8psi boost and will be a quick spool to keep lag to a minimum. We are looking at 135-145 bhp with normal fuel.
New Bosch 2 bar map sensor, Dynojet power vision, an intercooler, clutch upgrade etc are all ordered and will arrive around 15 jan.
Watch this space for some exciting January build.

re: Turbo-charging my Harley Davidson Fat Bob

Ordered an Intercooler, after looking at several shapes and size from cars, Suzuki swift Intercooler has hose outlets at workable angles for a midframe downtube mounting on a motorcycle.

Also attached how Trask turbo guys put on a very small custom built intercooler on left side hanging in mid air.
This time i am going to mount the turbo on Left side above clutch basket, with intercooler in front of frame downtubes.
That i guess would be a cleaner design and reduce the clutter on right side.

Took out the fuel pump module from inside the tank, replaced the pump motor as well as pressure regulator.
One hour job, running perfect. Rode it to har ki pauri for midnight Chai with friends.
Harley people wanted 24k for it, over that part wasn't in stock.

Interesting project, this is going to be a torque monster. Any updates planned for the brakes?

Already has Dual front semi floating disks with ABS. Pretty good brakes by Harley standards.

Re: Turbo-charging my Harley Davidson Fat Bob

Got the physical mounting work underway today!
Made some decent progress, however placing the Turbo on left side isn't as simple as hooking it up on right side of the engine. It sure looks simple enough at the start, but turning exhaust headers 180* to go where they were never designed to go without compromising gasses velocity isn't as simple. It's turning out more complicated than i expected. In fact the whole physical mounting the turbo and turning that turbine using exhaust is just 10-20% work of the Turbo project.
But what need to be done, needs to be done!
Made a video clip too, will talk about why, what's and hows of the project.

Re: Turbo-charging my Harley Davidson Fat Bob

So now the plan is to market this thing, the Turbo on Harley thing. I mean my expenses are like 30-40% of what these kits go for in USA.
So, I am doing an all India tour with it, like major cities.
For the same purpose I am looking to buy some motorcycle mountable cam on the bike. One can tell I am not much into photography or videography, but everyone I know suggests I make videos. Videos of riding, videos of working on bikes, videos of talking about tech.
So I guess a mobile phone camera isn't gonna cut it through.
Suggestions are welcome!
