Re: My Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade (Repsol Edition)

7 months and 10,000kms completed

Blade now makes it to 20,000 on odo after I completed just above 10k kms in the span of last 7 months. This could have been achieved in 5 months if it was not for work commitments, but as that commitment allows me to fill the tank, no regrets there as well.

The blade is continuously giving me 20kpl from day one till now. I have been using Motul 7100 10w40 on it till date and keeps a rigorous replacement interval of 5k kms. Next in the line would be a rear brake pad replacement and that's about it. The spares aren't an issue as of now if you think a bit ahead in time, where the EVM BigWing Topline in Cochin has always gone one step ahead and got me all the spares and service(for everything availed there) on time. Commendable job from their side, even from my CBR 650F days. One of the reasons I decided to stay in the Honda Family was this and I do not regret it at all, especially seeing how Yamaha folks are running from pillar to post to get spares and all emails to Yamaha Motor India goes unanswered!

The things that are still in the pipeline is the Brembo RCS19 Corsacorta and an aftermarket slip-on exhaust. The postponement of travelling plans of friends is keeping both of these at bay, but it should be worth the wait when it finally arrive.

The milestone, hopefully many more of these to come.

Me and @krishnaprasadgg's run to Kuthiran. This is Blade's second visit here, though the first one was undocumented.

That's some nice mileage in that time period, especially for a superbike.
I get little more than 20kmpl from my duke 390 bs3, so that mileage is unbelievable, hope the blade is not running lean.
Also, is the bike a US import as I could see right headlamp on, which I presume is the low beam. Typically, high beam means both lamps on?

Its Euro Spec. Yes high beam is both lamps ON. I think it was Ninja 250 that last had the left side headlamp ON even in US markets. I think all bikes from 2008 where keeping the right ON as low beam irrespective of the market. Even in UK, you can see right side ON for almost all non LED type headlight fitted motorcycles.
I dont think there is any rule regarding the same. If it was there, the R1’s from 2009-14 wouldn’t have had both the projectors on in atleast a few markets. Those gen R1 has both come on as soon as you start the machine.

Well, I am not sure there's any rule as such, but one would guess for keep left countries low beam would be on the left headlamp and high beam both similarly for keep right, low beam should be on the right to not blind oncoming traffic.
These days though it's totally different- even an activa led is blinding which makes me think how these get type approved by arai.
Watched some mcn old videos and you are right, the right beam was on.

Right, that was my assumption too. Back when R15 was launched in 2008, its left was the low beam which makes sense to this claim. But probably no one bats an eye now. As you said, an activa can simply blind you.

Re: My Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade (Repsol Edition)

Rode down to Bangalore and returned in a span of 2 days. Bike threw no tantrums and was good all along. The new Mysore Bangalore road could be tricky at some places for super sport motorcycles with low suspension travel. The poor quality of work done by NHAI could throw these set of bikers off the bike if they are at a high speed as the road undulation just appears out of nowhere leaving you no time to react. Just a word of caution for bikes with less suspension travel.

Next up would be rear brake pad replacement as well as a Brembo RCS19 upgrade to the front brakes.

The misty jungle route. Was equally scary when a couple of wild animals appeared out of nowhere. But I usually carry extreme low speeds in these conditions as any mishap involving wild animals could sent me behind bars.

The big ones
My Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade (Repsol Edition)-img5314.jpg

The real mishap. Indian roads, God !
My Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade (Repsol Edition)-img5356.jpg

My Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade (Repsol Edition)-img5359.jpg

The savior. I dint take the puncture kit because more weight on a super sport long ride is going to give the rider night mares.
My Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade (Repsol Edition)-img5358.jpg

The culprit. It being on the side and lack of any mushroom repair around Mysore led me the traditional way of fixing this. However, the air is not leaking as of now, but the hole doesn't look too good.

Nice pics @Xaos636. I see the rear rim is clean and free from chain spray. May i know what chain lube do you use?

I am taking the liberty to answer on behalf of Xaos636. Both of us have been using the Maxima Chain wax for quite a while now. As for an alternative Putoline Chain Wax is also pretty good.
You can't go wrong with chain wax as it won't fling anything onto the rims if used correctly as opposed to chain lube.

This is what I do to avoid any kind of fling. Firstly clean the chain properly using an appropriate degreaser and a chain-cleaning brush. Once properly cleaned wipe off the chain dry or let it dry for 15-20mins or so. Then spray on the chain wax generously but not too much. 2-3 revolutions of the chain should sort it out. Make sure the wax reaches the o-ring area well. Once done, let the wax sit on the chain for another 30 mins and then wipe off excess by lightly dabbing with a clean rag. And you are done. Ideally do not ride the bike for a few hours to let the wax settle in. I usually leave it overnight just to be sure but honestly overnight is overkill. A good hour or two attains the same result. Hope this helps.

Now if you are still not convinced about what product is best and have 30 mins in hand. Watch this video.

Cheers
Krishna

Thank you. I have heard of Maxima chain wax but i shy away from it due to the price tag it carries. I had just ordered Putoline drytec and yet to know how it performs. I believe you meant the Putoline Drytec as Putoline chain wax, right?

Yeah. It sucks they raised the price again. But it works like a charm. I try to not waste too much and use just the right amount now because of the price

Yup, I meant the Drytech. I was blanking out on the name so just used Putoline chain wax instead.

You'll be satisfied for sure. My only gripe with the putoline stuff is the wax has a whitish color to it naturally while the Maxima is a light yellowish tint which doesn't show on the chain as much.

Cheers
Krishna

Re: My Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade (Repsol Edition)

Believe the boy's had fun in the previous posts. The Maxima chain wax comes in a color which added bling to my already golden chain. Its very easy to clean the wheels, its more like there is absolutely no lube on the alloys anymore, which itself saves a lot of time as well as a lot of wheel cleaner/kerosene/diesel which saves the planet by a bit I believe.

The Maxima chain wax cost has increased by almost 50% which is shocking for me. I need to try out other waxes in the market once my current wax gets over. Shall keep everyone updated on that.

Came across this thread late. That's a beautiful bike and an informative write up . I always loved the repsol colour scheme on the CBR.

It always beats me how such blunt bolts pierce the tyre. Painful to see it on such a good condition tyre.

Thank you brother. Yeah you are right about the tyre. Its leaking a tiny amount of air through the current patch. Need to check with an expert to see if Mushroom plug is possible for that area. I really do not want to spent 30k on a rear tyre now, especially when you see a good amount of grip already left on it.

One down, one to go. Christmas came early for the Blade, and how! Got the Brembo brake fluid reservoir as well. I am not sure when I will find time to install this, but I cant wait for sure!

Re: My Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade (Repsol Edition)

New year, new braking setup !

Finally got time for the brake upgrade in the form of Brembo RCS19 CorsaCorta coupled with Motul RBF 660 brake fluid, which has a much higher wet and dry boiling point, higher than even the Brembo Sport Evo brake fluid.

The braking has massively improved, the feel and feedback is phenomenal but when you swing on to a current gen supersport with the Brembo M50/Stylema calipers, that's literally when you understand that now I have an overpowered master cylinder setup with the stock Tokico calipers trying hard to catch up what the Brembo RCS19 is throwing at it, which it is unable to execute like a Brembo caliper would have done, but again this was completely expected. I believe a solid and ultra stable braking setup would require a Brembo M4(atleast) like in the SP variant of the blade, but comes at a steep price for a pair.

But these thoughts are something the extra perfect braking setup in my mind reads, however I am completely happy with the current setup. Now I understand why the SP variant came with Ohlins suspension to match the Brembo's, as everything works in a tandem here. And no, I am not upgrading to Ohlins because a pair of Ohlins forks would cost 1/3 of the bikes market value, but who knows what's in store for the future

The reservoir.
