A very well written and organized article. It clears a lot of myths about SBK in India.

Thanks for all that effort.

PS: Still waiting for official import of SBK to begin in India

Superb article. sums almost everything up, except potential DRI/customs hassles. I recently read elsewhere that things have recently been toughened in Mumbai. Could you higlight more on that aspect.

A gem of an article - loved reading it

Ajay, its a Honda VF750 soon to be fitted with the VFR750 engine. Belongs to a friend of mine. Who is planning to restore this beauty.

Things in bombay have always been tight, like RT mentioned there are hardly any baggage bikes with mh 01/02 plates, infact i do no recall coming across a bike like that in the two years of sbk hunting.

To add to the article, having a friend who knows bikes inside out is a boon in every part of your sbk life, right from settling with one to maintaining it

Very good article. One of the best. I have never owned or driven a Superbike but I have always drooled on them. One never knows when I get into my mid life crisis, I might even buy one

Fantastic article RTech and I'm sure that a lot of people will be referencing and using this article for years to come. I'm sure you will also keep it updated. The news about direct availability in India is also fantastic and hope it materializes. The down-side is something more to save for! . Cheers. Rajesh

Fantastic write up!

Great great info for some of us, who neither own, nor have friends who own any of these fantastic machines.

Yes. This does happen. The law holds the current owner responsible for any problems with the paperwork, regardless of whom you bought it from.

It's important to take a look at the amount of duty paid at the time of import, and the declared value of the bike. If the bike in question is an almost new R1, but the books show it valued at 1.5lakhs, stay away. It could lead to problems later, as it is obvious that the bike has been grossly undervalued. Hence, the owner, if caught, may have to pay the balance duty along with a hefty fine or risk losing his bike to the DRI.

Thanks for the appreciation guys. Lets make this thread into the definitive information source for superbike hunters in India. I covered the topic in general, we can now go a bit more in depth.
