Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, now launched at Rs.10.30 lakh

Suzuki may have line-up a new variant of the V-Strom for the Indian market. It is likely to be the V-Strom 800DE, as the ADV was recently spotted testing in India for the first time.

The V-Strom 800DE made its debut in November last year. It is positioned above the V-Strom 650 XT, which is currently on sale in India.

V-Strom 800DE is powered by a new 776cc parallel-twin engine that makes 83 BHP and 78 Nm. The bike features adjustable suspension and rides on 21-inch wire-spoke wheels.

The V-Strom 800DE is an off-road-oriented touring bike. It comes with raised handlebars offering a more relaxed riding position, a short windscreen and a prominent beak. In terms of features, the bike is equipped with a 5-inch digital instrument console, riding modes, a bi-directional quick-shifter and switchable dual-channel ABS.

Has got good reviews outside India with some favoring it over the transalp 750. But here this will go up against the bmw 850 which is feature loaded and possibly cheaper seeing how the vstrom 650 is already overpriced.

Possibly the 800DE is the best among that group (Transalp, Tenere, Touareg) if you consider a mix of onroad/offroad + reliability. My only issue is that this thing is HEAVY coming in at almost 230kgs Wet (+ extra for crash guards, luggage etc).

What Suzuki needs to bring to India is the DR650. Uncomplicated, super reliable and only 166 kgs wet !

Thought that was again wet weight with its ~20 liter fuel tank? It should still be a good manageable motorcycle provided one is able to comfortably reach the ground with one leg. Few sections of media are predicting the launch this festive season?

Don't think the DR650 will cut the ice with BS6 Emission norms.

re: Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, now launched at Rs.10.30 lakh

The V-Strom 650 XT is no longer listed on the Indian website. This could mean that:
  • The V-Strom 800 launch is around the corner
  • Suzuki might no longer sell the V-Strom 650 XT

Hope they bring the new V-Strom 800RE version to India. It's lighter (223Kgs vs. DE's 230Kgs wet wt.), comes with the tubeless 19 in. front tyres and a shorter suspension travel (150mm vs DEs 220mm). The 800RE will have superior on-road manners and make for a better tourer.

Vstrom 650 was discontinued in India in March 2023 when BS 6.2 norms were implemented.

Very capable bike as my cousin test rode it overseas. Problem, in Bangalore, is the SERVICE. The reason why I'm not considering a higher capacity SUZUKI. Otherwise, the bike is a stellar performer and has a tough fight on its hands.

Guys, any speculation on pricing? I'm torn between this and the NX 500

Think it'll be more in the Transalp territory than the NX500. Between the Transalp and the F850GS would be my guess.

The last known ex showroom price of Vstrom 650 was approximately 9 lakhs so I think this will be between 10-11 lakhs ex-showroom considering the upgrades including larger displacement. It competes with Transalp 750 which is priced at 11 lakhs so anything close to 10 lakhs will be really good but that looks unlikely IMO

Hello Sebring, I believe ~10-11 lacs ex-showroom which should be ~13-14 lacs on road. With basic crash protection and accessories you could consider a maximum ~14.5 lacs on road.

This should be on another level in every way when compared to the NX500. Go for it

Cheers
