They couldn't keep the price of Neo Sports Cafe CB1000 platform competitive (atleast compared to fellow Japs). Hence they cancelled the delicious CBF retro model which they were teasing for a long time. While they watched the Kawi Z900Rs sell like hot cakes across the world.
While I don't like the look of this Hornet 1000 (too much Z1000, Duc Streetfighter influences), I think this should be priced very competitively - going by what they did with the Hornet 750. Which means that with this lower cost platform, we can see the CBF concept making a comeback at some stage ! I got tired waiting for Honda to bring something in this segment and switched to Suzuki :D. (No regrets whatsoever though)
Steel frame, no bracing on swingarm, plain jane design with nothing standing out.
Seems like Honda just gave up and the brief to the engineers/designers were to come up with something very quickly within a very small budget. Bike looks like from 2 decades ago and not in a good way-reminds me of the cbf1000. It'd be a travesty if Honda doesn't come up with a true blue hypernaked based on the new Blade to compete against the others in the segment.
Looks like Honda has a winner on their hands with the Hornet. It stands out as a motorcycle as well and not just a great value proposition according to most first ride reviews. That's a change from the usual "brilliant bike but a bit characterless" impression of the past CBs. And it sounds so good for a stock bike. Honda really need to price it as it deserves, in India.

Lets just PRAY and hope that Honda India price is bike reasonably! :uncontrol

Prayers and hoping will not help with Honda rl:
First they have to launch this bike here and going by their track record only God knows when it will happen. Forget certain publications which print anything for clicks, realistically there is no clarity.
Secondly even if/when they launch this or any other model in India they have to provide enough bikes. In this also we have their track record of customers having to wait for months after making part or even full payment with dealers having no clue of anything.
Thirdly their pricing is anything but honest and competitive. They price their bikes out of contention as is their track record thus far.
Good products being let down by the pathetic approach to the Indian market by Honda. It’s a take it or leave it attitude. I believe it would be best if we as customers boycott or let’s say don’t queue up to buy their products to teach them a lesson. They deserve this and it’s high time we deliver it.
Cheers
The starting price of the Honda CB1000 Hornet is GBP 9,999 which converts to INR 10.80 lakh at current exchange rates.
Using the price of Honda Transalp XL750 as a guideline :
Price in UK = GBP 8,749 converts to INR 9.45 lakh
Price in India = INR 11 lakh
India price is higher than UK price by 16.4%
Using the price of Honda NX500 as a guideline :
Price in UK = GBP 6,829 converts to INR 7.37 lakh
Price in India = INR 5.90 lakh
India price is lower than UK price by 20%
So, will Honda India price the CB1000 Hornet at INR 12.57 lakh (16.4% above UK price)
or at INR 8.64 lakh (20% below UK price) or somewhere in between ?
My guess is INR 10.49-10.99 lakh. And if they really want to stir a hornet's nest, INR 9.49-9.99 lakh.
Only for contrast, this is with what Kawasaki does with the Z900 ...
Price in UK = GBP 9,699 converts to INR 10.47 lakh
Price in India = INR 9.38 lakh
India price is lower than UK price by 10.4%
Would be great to hear everyone's views.
Cheers,

12-14L is the best case scenario :D Honda India doesn't think like we do. And they have a major obstacle which is the market placement of the upcoming Hornet 750, CB650R and the big Hornet 1000. CB and base Hornet 1000 are priced at around 1L apart in Europe. They will not price the Hornet at 10 or 11L because that is going to be the price point of the CB650R considering the last one was sold for 9.1L. It was already overpriced and DOA the last time. If they price the much more enticing Hornet 1000 too closely, they better not launch the CB here. 12-14L for the SP makes it still a pretty good deal among the current big bikes. We are not going to get the extremely competitive Euro pricing strategy here, that's for sure.

Nope! :)
The bike starts at £8,999 for the standard version and £9,999 for the SP version. Reviews says £10k because everyone got only the SP to review, whereas India might be getting only the standard.
Now let's day dream even more :D
Best part is - reviews point to an exciting bike, even when the price isn't a big consideration.
This bike should find enough takers even if they launch at around ₹11-₹12 lacs for base variant. The bigger challenge for Honda will be to bring/assemble so much units for our market. There is always a supply challenge for any CKD/CBU Honda product.
The bike looks promising and it will be a tough decision for me(if I am in market) to choose the Hornet or the hugely involving ZX6R. A very welcoming conundrum anyways lol:

4 cylinders is authentic japanese retro design. I would not be surprised if they treat hornets like MTs and neo cafe series as XSRs and as usual, retro commands a premium.
There is no reason for Honda to price it around 11L in India. The 750 Hornet now sells for 300 quid more than when it launched. Same with the Yamaha MTs. Japanese have been doing introductory pricing in other markets for a long time just like Bajaj and RE do here. But in India, they have no incentive to do so, because first, superbike, second, japanese, third, Honda reliability. So Honda should just sell it in India for more margins no? I don't think so. At best this is going to break Z900 numbers and when spread over a country as large as Europe, it simply does not make sense. That is not enough volume for dealers, not enough spares and support for riders and the Japanese are supply limited anyway. Keeping customers happy in Europe is much easier, so that is where all the inventory will go.
Don't go by manufacturer pricing in other markets. Nobody is able to find a dealer selling it at that price. There's a 30% markup on everything sold there. If they say 8k pounds it probably means 10 to 11k. You can just see the MCN review of Hornet this week on YouTube and everyone in the comments are lamenting how high the dealers are charging on any motorcycle sold there.
Ours is a much smaller superbike market in comparison, not helped by the stupid taxation. So the manufacturers use us as a dumping ground which is why the launches are delayed compared to other markets.
