We stayed in the hotel TN, which is walkable distance from the Rameshwaran temple, as we want to do darshan in the evening. This is TN govt hotel, very big hotel next to the sea. Rooms and facilities are good, good parking for bikes near the room. Also morning breakfast buffet was good.

Re: BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun

Got a rare opportunity for a 3 day solo ride to Coorg in the first week of feb. Turned out to be a fantastic experience.

As usual left early morning from home around 4am. Nothing beats good music and cold morning rides. There was a lot of fog also that morning. This is somewhere after crossing Vellore.

Met my cousin near Hosur, then went to his place for a heavy breakfast. Decided to take the service road of expressway to Mysuru. Cousin again rode with me till nice road exit, this time on an interceptor.

BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-whatsapp-image-20250302-9.31.12-pm.jpeg

Reached Mysuru around 2:45 and saw this huge building with a veg restaurant inside. Thought of having lunch here, only to waste time as it was way too crowded. Later found out its a car museum.
BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-5.jpeg

As i had heavy breakfast, i was not that hungry, so thought of riding till to Coorg and have dinner early in the resort. My usual routine is to skip breakfast and have lunch at 1:30pm. As i was riding alone, did not wanted to ride in the dark, specially the last ghat section. I had checked with the resort and there was 2-3kms of bad roads. Didn't wanted to take any chances.

Stopped at couple of places for sugarcane juice.

BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-4.jpeg

Nice roads and greenery all around
BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-7.jpeg

BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-6.jpeg

Finally managed to reach the resort around 6:30pm. Approach road was not bad, it was bit narrow and broken tarmac. Check-in done and bike safely parked.
BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-8.jpeg

I stayed at Club mahindra, Virajpet. The property is huge, the room was a it far from the reception but with location like this i am not complaining.

Dinner on the other hand was very average, i was the first one to reach for dinner lol.

Breakfast was a bit better than dinner but nothing extraordinary. Due to location of this resort its will be difficult to go out for food. I have been to few club mahindra properties in past few years, this time food was really awful, their charges for food is also on higher side, at they can make it good

Re: BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun

Had nothing to do after breakfast so went on a ride to Madikeri for lunch.

BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-29.jpeg

I was riding really slow, just soaking in beautiful scenery all around.

Saw this restaurant with good reviews, had some local Coorg lunch and it was good. Ended up talking to staff there for sometime about bikes and riding, most of them were very young and owned bikes.

Found a sign for Dubare elephant camp. It was a scenic spot but too crowded. Could not go to the elephant camp which on other side of the Kaveri river. Water level was low so you could just walk across but with all riding gear it was not a good idea.

People walking across the river, it was a bit slippery as i saw at least couple of people fall in the few mins i was there.

Boating was available for river but they wont let you cross the other side in boats. Boats are used for river crossing only when water level is high, at least thats what i was told.
BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-39.jpeg

Got ready to leave around 8:30am next day for home.
BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-40.jpeg

Found another elephant camp on the way.

Decided to take Kanakapura route after Mysuru this time to bangalore. Met Sunnyboi just before Kanakapura, we talked almost for an hour, without realizing it

BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-44.jpeg

Had lunch in A2B just before hosur. Saw this fellow having snacks in the parking.
BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-46.jpeg

Next stop was CCD after Ambur. I wanted to enter Chennai a bit late, so not get caught up in the evening traffic. So took rest for sometime here.
BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-45.jpeg

Fantastic combo
BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-47.jpeg

Incredible evening sky
BMW F850GS Adventure Review | F is for fun-48.jpeg

Reached home around 9:30pm, fantastic day. Thoroughly enjoyed it !
Final trip was 1320kms, bike done around 18k kms in 10 months.

Hey @Rahulkool,
How long did your first set of tires last? Mine's done about 14k, and the front seems to have 3.5mm of tread left. Want to change it. Running on the Stock Anakee currently.

Hi Buddy, my bike has done around 19.5k kms as of now, The front tyre seems to be on its last leg, it might do 2-3k kms more. While the rear tyre has decent amount of tread still left, my rough guess is that it will last another 8-10k kms. I am very surprised as rear tyre usually wear out faster in bikes.

Below pics were taken around 600kms before, after a spirited ride on the hills.

Wow, you got almost 20k on a set! I could only manage 12k on mine. Im now on my 3rd set. Got karoo streets when I went to ladakh in 23', worst tyres ive ever experienced. had 4 punctures on the front and 2 on the rear. Stay away from those. Switched back to stock anakees after that fiasco. Got the Metzeler tourance 1s fitted now, feels different to the anakees but took some getting used to, so far it seems ok.
