Help.. Should i import the 1999 SUZUKI BANDIT 250??

Hi Friends,

I am here in Dubai currently, came here for a business trip.
I came across a Suzuki BANDIT 250, 1999 model for sale. I am not sure whether I can go ahead buying it. I think i can get it for around 50000rs(not sure). It looks good also, but not sure about the condition.

But, the thing is whether I should import it(if the condition is good). I am not sure of this model itself, and also the specifications of whether this is approved in INDIA. And also If i get it, is it easy to maintain the bike like servicing or spares etc.. Can anyone help me on this??

The bike is 250CC, 38 BHP..

MJ

If U've owned it for two years in Dubai, U can bring it in legally.

IMO spares could be a problem even if you could get it down here.

, it makes no sense getting down and going through all the hassles to get a 250. get down a 600 or 900 atleast. you would find alot of good second hand bikes there. the khalij times does carry some adds for bikes and also if you take a round at the car market in sharjah you could come accross some good deals.

I personally feel that >600CC bikes are overpowered for our country(atleast chennai) But I actually wanted to get a 400 CC bike, but not getting any good deals. That too in Dubai whatever Bike I saw are very old models. So thought of starting with the 250 itself.. Just one question really I am worried is, After importing any sports bike to our place How do we manage with the spares and regualr services. Only local mechanics?? And also how sure can we be that the parts are still the same after the service..

Well, if a personal thing I guess, but frankly, 600cc and about 80-100 Hp is not overpowered. Its adequate power IMO!

The hassles I'm refering too include shipping, duties, penalties, bribes, registration etc. and everything else that goes into bringing down a bike. So while the bike may cost you Rs.50,000 in Dubai, the landed price in India would be a minimum of 1.75-2 lakhs. More if you end up with a customs officer in a bad mood. Then you would have to register it as well.

Much easier to buy a 250 or 400cc bike in Chennai itself for the same price.

Is it possible to import an eight year old motorcycle?
AFAIK used vehicles being imported should not be more than three years old.

The only problems u'll face:
1) getting it out of the customs
2) Registration

And if this is what is seducing U, I'd suggest U forget it.
Things will work out in lakhs by the time ,the baby's inside the country.
And lets not even go to the hassle involved.
