BMW Motorrad R20 concept unveiled

BMW Motorrad unveiled its latest design concept: the BMW R20 concept at the renowned Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.

The centerpiece of the BMW R20 concept continues to be the air-oil-cooled Big Boxer engine, now with a displacement of 2,000 cc.

Quote:
Markus Flasch, Head of BMW Motorrad, describes the concept as follows:
"The BMW R20 concept is a mechanical masterpiece, with the Big Boxer in its center. Distinctly BMW Motorrad."
Some highlights of the concept -

Quote:
The chassis has been completely redeveloped and, with a black double-loop main frame made of chrome-molybdenum steel tubes, forms the backbone. With the black disc wheel at 17x6.25 inches at the rear, on which a tire of the dimension 200/55 is mounted, and a 17" spoke wheel with black spokes and the tire dimension 120/70 at the front, the
BMW R20 concept combines tradition and modernity. The proven BMW Paralever has been executed in a new two-arm variant, in which the swingarm is made of chrome-molybdenum steel and the Paralever strut is made of aluminum.

The kinematics are designed so that the drive torque is completely balanced. The two milled aluminum rear axle carriers are another high-quality detail. The exposed driveshaft, conceptually adopted from the R18 – the visual highlight of the well-known R 18 models - has been shortened for integration into the roadster architecture.

As suspension elements, fully adjustable Öhlins Blackline components work at the front and rear. The basic vehicle geometry has a steering head angle of 62.5°, as well as a wheelbase of 1,550 mm. Radially mounted brake calipers from ISR at the front and rear take care of the deceleration – with six pistons at the front and four pistons per brake caliper at the rear.

Additionally, the 2-in-2 exhaust system delivers the appropriate sound character and perfectly completes the design.

Re: BMW Motorrad R20 concept unveiled

It looks sick with that vibrant colour. The engine looks similar to r18. Hope so that this new engine has a redline at around 7500 not like the r18 engine whose redline is at 5700.

BMW to unveil R20 Roadster in 2026; Powered by a 2,000cc boxer engine

According to reports, BMW is working on a new motorcycle concept called the 'R20'. The new BMW motorcycle will be a roadster and is expected to debut sometime in 2026. Reports suggest that the details of the motorcycle have been confirmed & registered in Germany.

The upcoming BMW R20 roadster will be powered by a 2,000cc boxer-twin engine. It is said to produce 100 BHP and 160 Nm. The R20 concept unveiled earlier this year, showcased the motorcycle with a single-seat setup. However, the production version will get a pillion seat as optional.

Other details on the BMW R20 roadster include an adjustable Ohlins suspension setup with USD forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. Braking is handled by dual front discs and a single disc at the rear, supported by dual-channel ABS. The motorcycle will run on 17-inch spoke wheels with tubeless tyres, get LED lighting all around, a TFT display for the instrument cluster along with Smartphone connectivity, traction control and ABS; among plenty of other features.

Re: BMW to unveil R20 Roadster in 2026; Powered by a 2,000cc boxer engine

Boxer engines (2 cylinder engines with the 2 pistons positioned opposite to each other, like they're 'boxing') have been quite common on BMWs with over 100 years of service, but this one seems strangely designed and particularly big.

As a cruiser, this engine rocked, but now, where will the rider's knees go? Will they touch the combustion chamber, the hottest motorcycle part on the exterior (barring the exhaust)?

Anyhow, 160NM from a 2 liter, but power maxing at 100bhp suggests it will in a mild state of tune, just like its 1802cc predecessor. I expect a 5000~ rpm redline.
