Re: Ducati lines up 14 new motorcycles for India in 2025

The biggest change here is the massive punt (if I may call it that) that they’re taking with the all new V2 engine here, which is effectively serving as a single point replacement for both the Testastretta and the Superquadro engines which were previously between them cranking out engines ranging from 110 to 150 hp. Between them, these two erstwhile engines were doing duty on a wide variety of motorcycles in the Ducati line up, serving everything from the Multi V2, Desert X, Scrambler range to the higher performance bikes like the Streetfighter and Panigale V2s.

The big question is - for the 150 bhp Streetfighter and Panigale V2 customers, will the new V2 which sees a nearly 30 bhp drop (14 kg weight drop acknowledged), still cut it. Has Ducati effectively diluted the “Panigale V2” branding with this new 120 BHP iteration and could it have been better served sporting the Supersports nomenclature?

The bikes have distinctly shifted to a more road bias and I wonder if the track aficionados will feel more inclined now to jump up straight to the V4S, with the new V2s holding more appeal to the erstwhile Supersports buyer.

Just as an enthusiast, would love to watch how the market reacts to these downspecce’d V2 monikers.

Looks like Ducati is replacing both Supersport and Panigale V2 with 2025 Panigale V2.

Since 600cc category is again having old players coming back with their offerings, ducati also want to compete in this category by detuning power to same ballpark. I feel, it would still be a Ducati on track but more rideable on streets as well. One thing is for sure, prices for used Panigale V2s, Multi V2s are going to increase.

I really hope that Ducati don’t bump up the prices for 2025 V2s in india. Rest, fingers are crossed until some reviews are out confirming that it still has same Ducati DNA in 2025 Panigale V2.

I love it. Ducati is finally engineering in the right direction. Sure, the desmo is iconic and all that, but man is it a pain in B-side to service - not speaking of - costs! Top end performance, where the desmo shines is rarely, if at all usable in daily conditions. The weight reduction in the new Panigale and SF V2s is most welcome. That weight loss immediately makes up for the power drop. Added to this, the extended and cheaper service, Ducati just made their lineup more accessible to the masses.

I think some one getting these bikes with track in mind, will fell shortchanged. But in real life use case how many track days do these bikes actually see, once or twice a year, rest of the time is spent on highways and breakfast rides.

For me if the new engine helps to bring the Heat down, it could be a game changer, add to it the weight loss, the bike will still be a lot of fun on the highways and general riding. If the heat is still unbearable then this will be a tough pill to swallow. Bike should excel well in Track also with that power and could be a good starter bike before heading into the litre class category.

If someone is looking for a track only bike they should definitely look at going pre-owned bike with higher power of old engines, but as an allrounder this bike might excel much better.

Pricing is another discussion point altogether as a little birdie tells me the V4 is going to be priced in oblivion, hopefully V2 continues to be priced a bit more sensibly.

@Sensible Speed and @Athek:

Agree with a lot of what you’re written. There’s no denying that in isolation, there’s some sensible product in there. Its cheaper to maintain without the desmo (although buying still involves the usual Ducati tax); its lighter and nimbler although the power deficit far outweighs the weight loss and the older V2 will still trump power to weight ratios and finally it has got a much more livable profile now with a more road bias over a track focus and a more usable and flatter torque curve that will make its presence felt lower down the rev range too.

My only point is they’re essentially selling what is closer to being a superior Supersports but packaging it as a Panigale V2 - that’s what it’s called and that’s what (internationally) it’s being priced at.

Yes it’ll be a bit cheaper on upkeep but it’s still going to be frightfully expensive to buy. Which is why, I’m intrigued to see how this plays out for the big D. Agree with you Athek - hard core track afficianados will definitely feel short changed. But at least in these parts I don’t really know folks who try to make this an all in one bike that can be daily’d as well as taken to the track. Most riders that I’ve encountered that own a Panigale also own some bike or the other which is their more practical steed, whether for city, touring or both. Not sure this shift will make this more acceptable as a single bike garage.

A Panigale can never be a single bike in a garage, it is not built for it, until some one has lower part of body built of titanium to handle all that heat. My point was with lesser heat it might still be much more manageable to get it back home while returning from the morning ride in heavy traffic.

Current ones are so tough to handle, the moment you encounter some traffic as they turn from steed to furnace in matter of minutes. That said this is how things are turning out with all the norms, bikes are getting neutered down, first it was the daytona now the V2, we will need to accept the new normal. Hopefully the Litre class still maintain the power band as now with MotoGP shifting to 800 CC, I am guessing soon we might see litre class bikes as well going the lower power band route.
