Re: Honda X-ADV 750 teased ahead of its India launch

In a country where owning a bike above ₹3–4 lakhs is already considered a lifestyle flex, Honda somehow thought it was a brilliant idea to launch a scooter costing ₹12 lakhs. Meanwhile, enthusiasts have been practically begging for the CRF300 twins, ready to throw money at it the moment it drops. The people making these decisions clearly need their brains preserved in jars because this level of strategic lunacy deserves to be studied.

Re: Honda X-ADV 750 teased ahead of its India launch

The typical prospect who might be interested in a X ADV 750 is someone who has already owned big bikes and is looking for something different. Maybe even a second big bike in the garage. Definitely someone >40 yrs old.

Because of its maxi scoot configuration, there are a lot of positives which the XADV has - For eg: its Low revving 745 cc parallel Twin with a smooth DCT and a long wheelbase which will be great for touring, and can handle the bad roads. In addition to regular commuting. I can bet that the seat is more comfortable for long hours than most motorcycles. Not to forget the underseat storage which can hold a full face helmet.

These above virtues will never appeal to someone looking at Street Triple/ Z900 or even Transalp / V Strom / Tiger 900 in the same price range. The XADV and its cousin the Forza 750 are very popular in Europe for a reason.

I would have definitely considered this one if I were in the market right now. And I'm turning 40 this year :| More the merrier. Bring it on Honda !

Re: Honda X-ADV 750 teased ahead of its India launch

Did not expect Honda would bring these motorcycles and that too early. (Rebel 500 & X-ADV)

The pricing is still on the higher side, but at least now we have an option of a bigger off-road Scooter. On the other hand, the BMW C400 has absurd pricing.

I guess, XADV will be allotted in limited numbers for our market, but there will be excited buyers out there for sure.

Rebel will also have good sales coz the low seat height(for shorter riders who want a cruiser), reliability, and great lights.

Good Luck, Honda.

Re: Honda X-ADV 750 teased ahead of its India launch

This is a niche product, not mass market. Aimed at a buyer who wants a powerful automatic scooter - period. 745cc, 58hp, 69nm of torque with the comfort and convenience this offers is unbeatable. Will kill most motorcycles out there, comparisons don’t work in this context. Check out international reviews - it’s a superb product.

Cheers

That's the problem. They are popular in Europe, not in India. There's a video F9 made about the Suzuki Burgman 650 and it's popularity among European executives.

India is not a mature market for a scooter like this to sell well. A scooter seller like HMSI should know that.

For an average joe in India, this is the hierarchy: big (not just in cc, also in phsyical size) motorcycle with gears > normal/small motorcycle with gears > scooters

I don’t know what comparison is that. Because the 660 is a big failure even considering the price and that it has to offer, no wonder triumph is offering huge discounts over it, the street triple on the other hand is an amazing machine but a different genre altogether. The Honda X ADV is a maxi adv scooter , DCT which will definitely do good in the market for sure, considering Honda’s reliability and the demand for a good maxi scooter.

Re: Honda X-ADV 750 teased ahead of its India launch

I see a BMW scooter parked often in my layout. The owner of the house is one of the landed class that used to own half of Bangalore and only drive white Toyota SUVs. I wouldn't be surprised to see this standing there. When your net worth is in 9 or 10 digits and everyone has a German SUV, you need something that makes you stand out and this is it.

re: Honda X-ADV 750 teased ahead of India launch. Edit: Now launched

After the above post, few members reached out to correct on the ex-showroom price. Hence this update

Ex-showroom price announced during the launch is applicable for Gurugram only. Prices vary across states and the pricing for Bangalore is almost 91,000/- more than the price in Gurugram

Pricing above has been confirmed by the Bangalore dealer.

Clearly they want to make the most of the Single Scooter they might probably sell in Bangalore.

Atrocious pricing, misplaced product and ultimately waste of time and resources.

Please wake up Honda.

As a global corporation, I wonder what is wrong with them. First, they launch DOA products, then when sales aren't exciting, their higher-ups must be telling the India staff look "We told you so, this market isn't good or worth investing/taking seriously, so keep making and selling Activas." I am sure the Hornet 1000 for which we are all waiting, will be a similar story .

Re: Honda X-ADV 750 teased ahead of India launch. Edit: Now launched

I’m not sure why so much concentrated angst at Honda. I have myself criticized their apathy to the Indian market in the last several years. But if you just step back and see the last 12 - 18 months, they’ve actually launched a number of products. They finally relaunched the 650 CBR twins, they’ve brought the incredibly relevant Transalp 750 to India, Hornet twins (750 and 1000 cc) too in the near future and finally they just launched yet another 500 cc Rebel.

This is a really wide array of offerings in the recent past specially compared to the years immediately preceding the past year or so. Yes, it’s still inexplicable that they have still not brought their immensely loved Africa Twin here but they’ve certainly stepped up the game in recent times - let’s give them some credit for that.

Coming to the 750 ADV - agree it is super niche. But if you see, so is the C400 GT from BMW and that bike still has its limited and niche buyers in India - I see it’s fair share (for a 15 lakh scooter) being picked up by a certain segment of buyers. If you compare these two head on and if I were ever in the market to buy a 14 - 15 lakh scooter (totally moot, I'd rather get me a supersports for that cheque size) - heck I’d definitely pick this Honda ADV 750 over the BMW 400 scoot. As I’m sure many others could as well.

Let them indulge in their brand building if they wish. It’s their call. I can only hope these halo offerings will be followed through with closer mass market options like a ADV 160 or even Forza 300 in due course - who know - one can at least hope!

Looks like Honda instantly reacted to my post
They just announced CB750 & CB1000 Hornet for India!

Re: Honda X-ADV 750 teased ahead of India launch. Edit: Now launched

As someone who has always wanted to see the maxi scooter segment in our country, this is finally good to see. I get that it's a niche product, not aimed at mass sales with that pricing but surely there will be a few takers.

Non auto enthusiasts on other social media platforms are calling it a bigger Hero Xoom 160 with inflated pricing and I wish I could tell them how far they are from the reality. But they will never understand.
