As with most (if not all) BMW boxers, it is a shaftie. It cleverly serves as the swingarm as well. And with the disc located on that side as well, it leaves the other side open for other things...like growing lilies for instance.

the front distinctly reminds me of the motorcycles made by the confederate motor co, google them to know what I am talking about.
