Yamaha Fz-8

The upper-middleweight naked bike segment, which currently has entrants from the likes of BMW, Aprilia and Ducati, is about to get an good ol' injection of Japanese know-how as Yamaha readies its upcoming new FZ8 for production. Yamaha apparently sees room for a machine that splits the difference between the smaller FZ6 (and FZ6R) and the full FZ1 naked literbike.

Judging from the photo, the FZ8 appears to be based on the current FZ1, and internet rumors suggest the 800cc mill will be a downsized version of the former R1 engine with an identical stroke and smaller bore. The official unveiling is scheduled for March 12.

Would make an excellent commuter for people like me who do not want to cross the 1K engine capacity, but want more than the 600s. The ER 6N and the Gladius are 2 very exciting options in the 600cc naked bike segment. Maybe Yamaha gave up on refreshing the FZ6 to compete with these two and decided to create an all new segment. Not many 800s out there, VFR 800 is no more, its a much bigger 1200 for 2010, then there is the BMW F800 (cheap but no naked streetfighter), then the Ducati monster (not a competition for japs though)

This will definitely be a hit, IMO.With so many people looking to move up from the 500-600cc range yet stop short of the 1000cc segment, this fits right in.

Any FZ is appealing to me & this is no exception. This is damn beautiful to look. But, is this a drawing or a real photo? The background looks little different though

This picture is released by Yamaha. The specifications and details will follow in march. I think Yamaha should launch its 600 and 800 CC bikes which makes a lot of sense in India.

Yamaha has launched the latest entrant to the FZ family- the FZ8 which is set to replace the entry level FZ6. The new FZ looks the same as the rest of the FZ family and also like its half faired cousin- the Fazer.
It has got its essentials from the bigger FZ1 including the chasis and engine (albeit downsized to 779cc).The engine dons a smaller bore size but the same stroke as the FZ1's 998cc unit. The maximum power is claimed to be a little more than 100bhp while the torque is around 82Nm. This means around 10 more horses and 20 more Nm than the FZ6. The bike has optional ABS to do the efficient braking for you which will add another 5kgs to the bike's weight (207kg for FZ8 while 215kg for FAZER8).
FZ8 has been in the fans' wishlist since the time rumours of this middleweight emerged. Yamaha says,'This is not a bike for beginners” on their website which means the beginner-friendly XJ6 and Diversion will fill the gap. With a price tag of around $8200, Yamaha has a clear winner in their hands.

Nice!!At $8200 (say $8500 on the road),this is going to make a big difference in the naked street bike segment.Looks like a lot of experienced riders would move over to this FZ!
