2 instances I wanna point out.
My friend rides 2004 Suzuki Boulevard (In biking year 2004 is considered pretty new) but his bike is on a Jack waiting for an important part to arrive from overseas...He himself is pissed off about the fact that he cant walk to a store nearby and find a part for his '04 suzuki
Another friend's uncle rides 60's Panhead and he keeps fixing the bike and it still runs good. He has made more than 90000 miles with an engine rebuild and still he can walk into a HD dealer and find parts for a bike that was made almost half a century ago...

My .02 cents most HD's will outlive you if you ever own one and dont wanna sell it off

+1
Besides, they are easy to work on and the reliability has vastly improved now (provided you dont go in for too many performance mods in the engine etc). If you get bored after 10-15 years, you can re-customize, repaint, re-chrome them and they are as good as new.

Besides, say if you buy any Harley in 2010, even in the year 2030, your bike is still not 'an old harley'.....it will still be called 'a harley'!
The most important things you need to be-friend if you own a harley : LOCTITE and FAITH , if you don't in all probability your bike will Vibrate and fall apart.

Re: Harley Davidson going on the CKD route!

got an update that harley is launcing Iron 883 and superlow in india by jan 2011 as ckd part and will assemble in india.

I have made up my mind to go for a Iron 883, it is a good bike and will give company to my thunderbird.

Re: Harley Davidson going on the CKD route!

Apologies if I may have missed out on the details. But by when will the Forty-Eight be introduced as a CKD unit? And guaging by the math in this thread, would we see it in the range of 6-7 lakhs or so on-road? Its currently 10 lakhs.

Re: Harley Davidson going on the CKD route!

are you dead sure of that? Coz it costs around 4.5L overseas and 10L here. Which is almost 110%.

Re: Harley Davidson going on the CKD route!

Now this news it gonna rattle the heavy weight bike category

HD introduces Dnya family bikes (1600cc) FXDB & FXDC @ 9.95lks & 11.5lks as a CBU from 2012...
Triumph has to rethink their strategy on pricing or else boy i feel they gonna face a heavy heat from HD in selling their bikes

Harley-Davidson introduces two bikes at lower price

Re: Harley Davidson going on the CKD route!

Yes a massive price cut of 4 lakhs on both of these bikes. This makes them perfect buys and will shake up quite a lot of the bike market. Other than the die hard sportbike fans most of the customers will give the big harley a thought. 1600CC with 125 NM torque for less than 10L ex showroom!!! Yummy!!

The article mentions that even the Forty-Eight is CKD, I had missed the news. More dealerships are also announced, This really is a pleasant surprise. So HD is still sticking to the Long term strategy...
