Tucson's ride comfort is much better than the endeavour but endeavour is not so bad.
Endeavour engine wont match upto DICOR levels as Its an old engine with power enough to haul the heavy beast around. We can use the word Sufficient for its engine.
1. If this is the first priority then forget every vehicle and ask your uncle to go ahead and get the endeavour.
2. space is more in the endeavour compared to Tucson but dunno about comparision with safari. You can remove the third row of seat for more space.
3. Power is not bad but just sufficient for daily commuting. Wont work wonders but wont dissapoint you either.
4. Solid and well-built its the Endeavour again. Its acutally a truck turned SUV.
5. That depends on where your uncle lives. Check out how far are hyundai and ford service stations are.
An endeavour with a CRDI engine is speculated but no concrete details yet.
remember, Ford is still the largest SUV maker and the best one at that. IT has that raw appeal and hence the reason of its shortcomings.
I would suggest you stick to either ford endeavour or wait for the mitsubishi montero/pajero

Its a bit expensive, but never-the-less a lot more economical than the Tucson or the Endeavor and has all the features that your uncle might need.

One thing to keep in mind is the service costs. If you are going to drive this for another 423K, then its gonna need a lots of servicing and spares.
Stuff like brakes, shocks, alternators, maybe engine rebuild.
If you go for Tuscon or Terracan or any other CBU, the spares can get pretty expensive on the long haul.
Keeping this in mind, the Safari DICOR is the best option and use it as a work vehicle. Buy another
car for personal use with the money saved.

Nope, this will not do...this is one crude machine, that grrr grr grr engine makes you sick; and again going to a body style like that will not work, 'cause people consider you moving around in a TATAMOBILE.(This is not U.S right).
We are now very keen towards the ENDEAVOUR... but as you all have mentioned theres a new CRDI engine hiding around the bush, we have to be extra careful.
Theres a lot of highway driving included..say a stretch of 500- 800Km, Can the ENDEAVOUR keep up a steady 130 - 140kph?? I mean cruise comfortably??

Between the two, you're better off with a Dicor....if you go in for the EX version you'll end up saving at least Rs.5 lakhs, with which you can buy a little city runabout too.

BTW, i spoke to a tata sales guy now as my friend is contemplating to buy a dicor. the guy ( whom i know for more than 3 years now) tells me to wait as some modifications are going on for dicor and is expected to be out in a month or two.. so he insisted me to wait.
he said some engine modification/tuning is being carried out... i harped around that point to get some more info.. but i feel he doesnt know anything more.
so if you zero in on a dicor, i would suggest you to get some info regarding this...
Ah! So I can expect another call from Tata Motors to take my car in.
This sounds good. Are they getting more power out of that engine? Hope its ready before we decide to drive to Goa for the Nat TBHP meet.

I am posting this request on behalf of a friend. He needs to upgrade his 2004 Ford Endeavour which has done a lakh and a half kilometers. He needs a SUV to tackle really bad roads and has a budget of 20L.
I had recommended the Innova V but he has to spend around the 20L mark for one car (Business reasons).
He is evaluating the 3.0L Thunder Endeavour, unless there are some other suggestions. He is mooting the CRV and Outlander since they are petrol.
The Pajero is out too since it is a pretty outdated model and design. I urged him to take a look at the Captiva but he is apprehensive on two counts - Interior space not as much as the Endeavour and the lack of an undercarrige protector (?).
So Gentleman - Suggestions? The budget cannot go north and much south because of said business reasons.

only one thing i can suggest. ask him to wait till September and but a fortuner.
otherwise if he is ok with the endeavours horrible ride he should check out the thunder.
If he is in a hurry then Endeavor or else wait for Fortuner. He is right, the captiva is cramped compared to the endy.
If he is happy with his current Endy then 3.0L Thunder Endeavour is the way to go. As Sahil suggested if he has infinite patience, he can wait until year end for the Fortuner.
If he can up his budget by about 5 lakhs X-Trail is an option too.
For your friends requirements, I see no other option other than another Endeavour and Tunder is the way to go.
There is no point what so ever to wait for a Fortuner. Toyota has delayed its plan to launch and I do believe that there would be further delays in their plans.
what kind of space does he need? does he need a big 3rd row seat?
Endy has 3 row seating and is high off the ground, but the seat to floor relationship is lower than Captiva.
Endy is built of an ancient truck frame whereas the Captiva is a unibody.
AFAIK, CRV and outlander are more of less the same 'space wise'
