Re: MM540 Series

Hi,
I would just like to confirm with you ,that as per your list does that mean that a MM540 registered new in Feb 1996 would be with a XD39 engine? Or was it available with the XD4.9P and the XD3P andit was upto the buyer to decide? The reason I am asking is that we recently got a 1996 MM540 ,,now on the tailgate it clearly mentions MM540 DP ,which I am lead to believe why go through the various forums on this website was the XD4.9P.

I would be very grateful if you could either let me have the specifications of a 1996 MM540 i.e. the tech specs that one would usually find in the owners manual or let me know which webpage would have these details ( Just to note that the vehicle we have is not the 4WD but is the 2WD)

Thanks and sorry for the trouble

Features XD4.9P 2.2L Diesel Engine.
Rounded Bumpers ala CJ340 with diesel tank filler at the Back (RHS)
Also the MM440 with F4-134 Hurricane.

2) 1987??89-1994 - The second batch of the MM540 had a flat belt like bumpers and the with diesel tank filler on the RHS. The differential ratio changed to 44/9. Engine remained the same

3) 1995-2000 - The XD3P was introduced in the MM540 along with a weaker new chassis which doesnot have the "V" crossmember at the back to fit the towing hook.

4) 2000 - The new look MM540 & MM550 was introduced.

Hi Anosh,

I own a 1996 MM540XD with XD3P (2498cc 72bhp).

The easiest way to know is to open the bonnet and check the starter motor, while facing the jeep if the Starter Motors is to your right its XD3P engined MM540.

Also you can check the engine block behind the water pump, there will be a small angled ledge, clean it and you can see the engine number XD3 Series will indicate XD3P engine.

Regards,

Arka

Re: 540xd

Thanks for the info ,checked it out and the starter motor is to the left af the block when facing the Jeep. So I guess it is the XD4.9P engine.

Though the registration is in the month of Feb 1996 I guess it must have been an old stock at the dealers when the first owner bought it.

Thanks

Re: Mahindra MM540 what say ??

Hello everyone !!

I'm a new member of team-BHP specially signed up with an intention to gain much knowledge on mahindra's thar / MM 540 / MM 550.

I'm planning to buy a 2000 year manufactured and registered mahindra MM 540. In this regard I have the following queries:

Vehicle condition:
1. A/C was installed.
2. Entire body is painted.
3. Seems like engine is not changed but owner claims that he has changed the engine ( Engine needs to turned off by pulling a lever beside steering wheel - hope this helps you all on figuring out on the engine)
4. It's a 4*4 vehicle, when I tried to shift 4*4 lever it was pretty hard but owner claims it is in working condition.
5. Water proof soft top was installed.

Queries:
1. Can I spend 2L on this vehicle.
2. If I want to get that MM 540 inspected by all means in Hyderabad who would be the best ( Please share the contact too)
3. What is the cost of converting the brakes to power brakes ?(As I heard that MM 540 brakes are low on performance )
4. What is the cost of installing a thar dashboard?
5. What is the cost of converting the steering to power steering?
6. Any components that you suggest me to change in engine ?

All jeep gurus please help me in owning a perfect jeep by replying to my post.

Anyone from Hyderabad can guide me through the list of contacts that can help me in checking the condition of the vehicle.

I'm posting the pictures for reference.

Re: Mahindra MM540 what say ??

I am replying on an old thread.

I have a MM540 from 1990. Want to rebuild it.

Need a good workshop, who can understand what I want and build it accordingly.

If there is a mechanic, who can work with us, we have space and all the tools to do it.

All advices and suggestions are welcome

Regards
