The original seats were Stanley Seats made of Art Leather and totally worn out and tearing. There was a Stanley badge on the side of the driver side seat. Those covers were totally removed, and then the shape of seats was done with Foam padding and then the fixed covers were put on. The material is imported velvet, we bought it from Karol Bagh from some wholesaler of Car Fabrics. It costed us about Rs 2700. We were told it is Japnese made Velvet fabric. Actually 2-3 mtrs in excess was bought and now Raju will be making 2 cushions to be put in the rear seats. I have known Raju since about 20 years, and he first did seats of my Contessa Classic which were like real Italian Sofa seats. He also did my Scorpio seats about 12 years ago in American Velvet which is good even today.

The seats are really comfortable and because of the slightly raised side wings they secure you with a grip and keep you in place. Also you don't get the bad slippery feeling that you normally get with Art-Leather. Another benefit is even if the car is standing in sun they don't burn your back side when you sit. The height of the seat also increases a little because of the foam cushioning and I find it great. All other things like height adjustment, bending etc remain the same.

The seats along with the door panels costed me around 11,000. I met the other Raju and Rahul listed in the Team-BHP directory too to discuss the seats. He did not have options in Imported Velvet but was ready to take me to a fabric shop. He would be much more professional and finish the job in a similar way in 2-3 days. He quoted 8K for Art Leather Seats, and 10k for Velvet Seats. He wanted an extra 2k for door panels.

Do let me know if you want any more details.

Congratulations on your purchase and immaculate restoration of your GV. It is indeed a pleasure to own and drive. I do miss driving it. I own the DL registered AT GV which was earlier listed in Hyderabad for sale.

Reading your posts, I am interested to find out how much did the items at # 6, 7 and # 2 (under body work) cost you? I want to get these done too.

Did this make any difference to actual lighting or was it just a cosmetic improvement that it made? I was thinking of having the headlights on my WagonR buffed since they are 13 years old and quite foggy looking but then I was told that it could break very easily for example if you follow a truck on the highway and it spits little stone chips at you. Any idea how true this could be?

6. Front Fender Lining of both sides replaced.
These were for around 1627 each or 3254 for both sides.

7. Both Complete Sides including all 4 doors, and fenders Painted

I paid around 16K for Painting of the whole car except the roof, Bonnet and Rear Door. The Dener-Painter is listed in the Team-BHP NCR Directory.

2. Installation of New Front Bumper with original Bumper Brackets.
The Cost of the Front Bumper was the most surprisingly high expense.
Front Bumper for 15800 ( Came in Japanese Packing). Bumper Brackets were 266 each.

I think Buffing just cleans up the Glass, so it improves in cosmetic looks and starts looking new, and since it cleans the glass obviously the light is a little better too. I don't think it will make any difference on the strength of the glass or make it weaker.

What are the cons of having a CNG kit installed in the GV?

Re: Used Grand Vitara - 2.0L or 2.4L?

Friends!

Bumping this old thread once again! This time I have found a Black 2.4 MT, 2012 model, nearing 70k on the ODO. It's with a dealer and not with any known contact. I haven't test driven it, just had a look. Exterior wise though, looks neat. What should be a fair price for this? And if I go for it, any surprises that I should expect at 70k+ kms?

Thanks!

Yet to find any surprises at 125K+ kms.

Just get it evaluated by a mechanic you trust. There is no special surprise package.

Great! Any idea what should be the fair price for this model if the condition is fair to good?

Do a thorough check in service history. Dealers are known to tamper with odometer. Another thing is after the test drive leave engine idling and remove the dip stick. If you observe droplets of oil splattering your hand kept a few inches away from orifice is indicating worn piston rings. Indicating engine well past double of claimed odometer.

IMHO at claimed odometer it is good buy between 5 to 6 Lac

Hello,
How did the sale go? Very interested in the 2.4 GV, always admired the car and a need for a real SUV in petrol leaves me with only the Fortuner as the option, hence considering this.

The sale didn't go well at all. As usual, the dealer had misrepresented the facts completely and the car ad was more of a clickbait than an actual sale offer. Ran away from the deal as fast as I could!

So, the search continues...

Re: Used Grand Vitara - 2.0L or 2.4L?

Call me prejudiced but to me for normal driving and galavanting across rough terrain GV 2.0lt is competent enough. Sadly 2.4lt were sold in much lower quantities and many have been snapped up for rallying.

A 2.0lt represent excellent VFM at purchase between 2~3lac

The thing with the 2.0 is that it is too old, hence only sticking to 2.4.
Here is the car that I find tempting, it is a 2011 AT 4WD done 98K kms, second owner, for sale by a dealer.
What do you guys think?
