4X4 advice..Ford Endeavour Vs. Tata Safari Dicor ??

I Invite members who have owned, driven long enough to divulge your In-depth Insights..

2004 Ford endeavor XLT 4X4 w/ 85000km.
vs.
2007 Tata Safari Dicor 4X4 vx w/ 34000kms..

assuming both maintained reasonably well/same price/factory stock with No added upgrades..

my priorities in Descending Order:
RELIABILTY..
On-road Driving Comfort..(seats, HVAC, Interior Noise levels..)
Real Life OFF-road capabilities(power to weight ratio, Gearing ratios, Ground clearance)
Safety features..(side Impact, ABS, Airbags...)

Not so important for me..
fuel efficiency..
looks..
resale value..

Infractions: 0/1 (5)

Advantage Ford:
More robust Mazda Power Train
More Prestige when compared to Tata Safari
Better resale value
In my opinion more reliable than Tata Safari. This is purely based on speaking to friends/family who have the Endeavor and have had no reliability issues.
Mechanical Transfer Case for 4WD. Personally I think this is more reliable and longer lasting than the electric transfer case that comes on the Safari 4x4.
Higher Ground Clearance.
Older IDI engines are low tech and are likely to be more reliable than CRD units.

Dis-Advantage Ford:
Front Seat is car-like. i.e you sit with your legs stretched front as opposed to an SUV style seating when you sit like on a chair.
Rear seats are bad and rear suspension has leaf springs resulting in a bumpy ride.
Spares are more costlier than Safari and hence service costs will most likely be higher.
IDI Engine underpowered (relatively) with no Variable geometry turbo hence turbo lag below 2000+ rpm.

About the Safari.
On road driving comfort is not matched by the Endeavour.
Safari DICOR is quite capable offroad(with better shoes) and ground clearance is acceptable.
The front and rear overhangs with respect to approach and departure angles for offroad use will be a concern for both Safari & Endeavour.
But if you happen to break the plastic front & rear bumpers of the Safari, they are cheaper to fix. Same goes for all Safari spares.
Tata also has a very vast sales and service network.
The Safari vx comes with dual ac which cools like a freezer even in peak summers.
Wind noise is a pain(for me) on the Safari at speeds above 110-120kph.
Shift on the fly 4x4 in the Safari works quite well and is quite useful.
Safari vx comes with abs & airbags(front pax only).

Cheers.
J

Safari out of the two and its an easy choice.

Ist thing its an old model endeavour and will have a very poor resale value.

And ford rips their customers like anything and this has already done 85k and thats where problems start.

Ask any existing endeavour owner and they will tell you how ford makes them to pay thru their noses.

Safari is very capable and relaible and total VFM.

so dont even think about Endy in the above deal.

Is this 2007 VX a 2.2 or a 3.0 Dicor?

If it is a 2.2 and you are not interested, do let me know what the price is.

Choices are personal, but if the vehicle is a 2.2 Dicor I doubt if you really have a choice because the Endy at 112-odd bhp is massively underpowered in comparison and shakes up every little bone in your passenger's body after folding them in two in the rear seats. The only plus point with the Endy would be that it has oodles of presence - other than that you have an old Ford diesel engine for which you may not even find spares in time.

No contest, really. But if you do decide to get the Endy, please send me the details of the VX by PM.
