What a Mom Sir Ji!!
Gift her the Thar and look no further. Also, as someone said here, make her a YouTube star or at least turn her into a BHPian. This is an amazing story. I am sure that many of us would love to meet women, especially seniors, who are motor-heads like us.
I wish your Mom lots of safe miles in her new car.
Best Wishes

Done. Sorry about that. I didn’t think that you would disapprove. Anyways, I have removed it now.
Best Wishes
Wow! Get her the Thar I say! In this day and age when people think a rolly polly “hatch on stilts” is an SUV, really refreshing and heart warming in a 60 year old lady wanting to drive a real SUV. Kudos! And happy birthday to your mom !
I believe new Thar would be much better than Bolero. Unless there will be regular passengers on the back seat, I suggest to go for Thar.

Hello again folks,
In the case of the Thar only the AX variant comes in my budget and wait times are not a concern as a close friend works with Mahindra and he says he can arrange either car within a week, we are looking at either cars in the Diesel Manual Avatar.
Thank You all. |
Interesting Dilemma you have there.
Firstly the AX variant in Thar has been discontinued due to pending bookings of the LX variant. In essence you have to look at AX(Optional) variant which is slightly more expensive than the Base AX.
Even though the Bolero is ageing,M&M has refreshed it periodically and rather than ruling it out completely I would still insist on giving it a deeper thought, it's still more car for the buck.
Thar comes with 4WD hardware and unless you have a need for it, why spend money for it and keep it as a trophy?
If I were in your situation it's Bolero hands down for the no fuss vehicle it is and the low profile road manners that it brings on the road without the crowd pulling charisma of the Thar :)
I would recommend that you buy Mahindra Thar if it fits in your budget as it has recently scored four stars in Global NCAP crash test thus, is a safe option. It also offers more modern features, an automatic transmission and an unique personality along with it's retro look. Some points you might consider for Thar over Bolero are:-
1.Impressive new design and overall build quality
2.A feature-rich cabin that is on par with some modern SUVs
3.Excellent ride quality and refinement levels.

So what did you end up getting?
I guess the Thar AX was discontinued shortly after you made the post.
Wow. This is one of the thread. Feel proud of your Mom clap::cool:
Considering she will be going to villages, only you can understand her needs from her perspective. Like what she wants out of the car, does she needs space for more persons or extra luggage to ferry every now and then (because you also mentioned Isuzu truck). Bolero offers both albeit with features offered by Thar.
Let us know on this.

Yes we ended up going for the top end Bolero, as we needed a hard top for sure that too in our strict budget.
Will make an ownership thread soon, if my mum agrees to join the community.
