I would recommend a Kodiak. The new one is just around the corner, looks great, excellent car overall.

Nothing can beat the Fortuner in today's market at your price range. And you can easily keep the car for good 15 years without having to trade-down (as you mentioned). With 10k running per year, this would be a no-hassle 'almost' luxury automobile you can buy.
Other options I would consider are; Superb, and the Camry/ES.
