I used to be one of those owners who used to crib about the poor brakes of the XL6. That changed when a brain dead tractor waala cut into my lane when I was doing >85kmph with barely 60m of space. The brakes brought the fully loaded car down to about 20kph with enough space left. I have started respecting the brakes ever since. Keep in mind that my car is an Automatic. The Manual will have better braking feel and effectiveness. |
Déjà vu moment for me. I was under similar impression that the brakes on XL6 are average at best, and had a certain expectation about how effective it will be at certain speeds. Had a similar moment as yours on highway when I was almost sure that given the speed, load of the car and deceleration available on board, I'll crash into the truck or the divider.
Still naturally I panic-braked and the car shed speeds with tremendous urgency and I appeared like a fool since the car had almost stopped with good enough gap to spare. :Shockked: The car felt almost possessed with a mind of its own. lol:
Later realised that this was the BA(brake assist) feature in action.

# How often will you travel with your family (all of them) on-board?
# Can you manage those drives without a chauffeur?
On a need case basis, you can hire / rent a bigger car with more seats or can move in 2 cars (on those rare occasions). And, have you test driven both? At the end, it is you and your family which is going to use it, so which ever car makes you smile the most and suits your needs.

I've driven a friend's XL6 quite a bit and can tell you that there is a huge difference in look & feel and features, especially when you consider the higher-end variants of the Seltos. Of course you will also pay much more for that, but I can tell you that it will be worthwhile.
All the best. |
Yes I agree that interiors of Seltos is way better than XL6 . XL6 have Black interiors which they say premium but seems to be claustrophobic to me. Still that can be changed with Saved money if we go for xl6 !!
I have driven both the cars and Seltos seemed to be more agile and pick up was also better. Sometimes, I think that my Honda Petrol iVtec is best :Cheering:
Still very confused. Never had such a big dilemma in my life.
Seltos - premium feel, good to drive, in- thing these days, you can Boast of.
XL6 - captain seats specially when our car is mostly Chauffeur driven, one extra seat, kids are finding it interesting as will give them options to move around, 3 lac saving (Zeta MT as Compared to HTK+ IMT)
What to do guys? :crying
If you do not need the advantage of ground clearance of Seltos and the powerful punch of the Kia motor, it makes lot of sense to go for the XL6 over Seltos:-
1) Lots of space, space does matter.
2) Better comfort during long drives
3) Family goes together.
4) It becomes cumbersome to hire bigger vehicles everytime you want to go on a trip.
5) I would even suggest an Ertiga for the bench seat.
6) Overall maintenance cost will be substantially lesser than Seltos.
7) Intial savings will be more which can cover years of fuel and maintenance cost.
8) For a lower cost you get a bigger spacious comfortable vehicle where all can go for a long drive without any fuss.
I agree ! Only thing which is largely stopping me in buying XL6 over seltos is Maruti badging . Though in terms of safety , Seltos is also not that good with 3 star rating but perception wise , seltos is still considered to be premium one.
I don't understand the concept of badging/status but that's just me.
Going by your previous posts, if badging is important then don't even consider those cars.
Create a list of cars from the badges you want and can afford, TD all of them in detail with the powetrain combination you want to buy, then check out the trim you want to buy and then buy the car which appeals to you the most.
I would suggest against buying a car which is highly recommended (like the XL) but you don't really like and then spending time and money to change it to somehow match your liking (like the interior shade). That's no way to buy a new car IMHO.
Shumi (from PowerDrift) said something brilliant : "The moment you walk out of the showroom the price doesn't matter anymore, so buy what appeals to you the most".
Of course go through the ownership threads to see the issues/niggles and then take a call.
Dear Guys, Thanks for helping me in taking the decision. Today, I have booked the XL6 Zeta MT version Premium silver Colour !! Delivery is expected in 15 days or so. Thanks to All and specially Dear Leoshashi whose thread really helped me to take the decision. When I saw silver colour today I was spellbound. It was looking awesome. Then again when I sat at the Captain seats, oh oh , I felt the difference as compared to seltos as I spent considerable time yesterday also in that car. And voila it sealed the deal. Booked by paying 11,000 Rs. Now eagerly waiting for Delivery !!

Anything specific about services of Kia. Is this very bad? I will switch from Honda and my experience with Honda had been very good. Earlier, we had wagon R so Maruti is well trusted. |
Please check around the forum on Kia service experience. Also, do share your sales experience with Kia. Mine was pretty bad. One of the reasons why I chose 5th Gen Honda City over Seltos. From my discussions with a dealer of both Kia and Honda in Chennai, I was found that Kia service will not be as good as that of Honda. This is mostly due to growth pains. Will likely ease-up over time. Setting up service operations is not that easy.
Regards,
lsjey

Congratulations on Booking. Well rounded off car. I will suggest if possible go for Alpha variant, take all the factory fitted bells and whistles.

Congratulations on the new car! Just drive it like the MUV it is and I can guarantee you will be very happy. Also, I would recommend changing the stock tyres. I went for Yoko AE51s (Blue Earth GT) in 195/65 R15 size, but they also come in the stock size of 185/65 R15. The change in ride quality is like night and day! Plus if you change immediately after driving out of the showroom, you will get buy back for your stock tyres and your total cost will barely cross 6-7k!
If you can wait for the new version, which is launching soon. I do not have exact timelines but guess it is called XL7 & launched in Indonesia. It looks & feels much better. If you can wait that is, would be worth it. If not, Congratulations are on the way for XL6.
