S-Cross hands down simply because it's an underrated car to a large extent.
Honda WRV is no match compared to an S-Cross in terms of performance, and build. Additionally, S-Cross has the least Odo reading here, and of course, you can never go wrong about Maruti.
Just try to negotiate a bit further.
How long are you going to keep the car. If it's for a long time, go with the s cross because it's the better car The initial hit will be high but you don't have to worry about resale.
If you're going to sell in a few years, xl6 makes sense because it will be easier to sell

Thanks a ton for the advice.
The username was thought of in haste lol:
High GC preference has more to do with utility than looks.
Staying away from diesels since I'm apprehensive of how many more years I will be able to use them for.
Would have voted for WR-V if it were a diesel engine. Honda 1.2L Petrol is weak in WR-V. S-Cross is the best option you have. See if you can find a 2018-2019 Scross Diesel. Else go with 2020 Scross petrol
My opinion is to go for S Cross. It is an underated quality product from Maruti Suzuki. Also you get marutis peace of mind ownership and service.
S cross is a better build product than Wrv or XL6
Thanks all.
I intend to keep the car for like, forever.
Unfortunately Spinny won't negotiate at all (Idk how people are ready to pay such high prices that they're in no mood to budge even a little). So it stays at 8.2L for the 2020 S Cross Zeta.
Meanwhile however, the TrueValue dealer has offered me a 2022 S Cross Alpha (odo 1050 kms only) at 10.2L. If I use simple math the running cost per year for the rest of the 15 year life will be 10k/yr more for this Alpha.
And finally, to add to the confusion; a friend has suggested that if at all I'm going that far as to pay 10L for a used car, why not get a brand new Sonet HTK Plus iMT which offers a one litre turbo, clutchless transmission, TPMS, touchscreen with Android Auto, and even a sunroof at 11L on road. I'll only have to live without the Cruise control and LED DRLs of the S Cross. Yes, the financing will be an issue, but perhaps cheaper in the long term.
Now I'm in a fix. Can anyone also comment on the long-term life of turbo petrol engines. Also, I'm seeing a lot of new Sonet buyers facing niggles with their engines and transmissions. What's the better course of action here? Is the ride quality on the Sonet as good as the S Cross?
S-Cross is the best product from MS stable, since its built for international market unlike the stripped down India specific models.
And I'am telling this from my personal experience, after driving the Ciaz and S-Cross back to back and found S-Cross much much better in all the terms (Ride, Build, Handling).
Honda though people talk good about their engines, the 1.2 is very dull even 1.5 will keep you happy only when you change your driving style and keep the RPM high.
Of course, voted for S-Cross
I may be the odd one here to suggest a Triber :)
You can pick one new in your budget. It satisfies all your criteria except for that peppy motor part. But then, It isn't bad though.
A new, 4 star rated 6 seater MPV, with loads of space (last row folded) for luggage and very good ride quality. It can be very frugal when driven with light foot.

- Haven't driven it but I doubt it. Although the Sonet Diesel AT is the one which has earned high praises on the forum.
- If you're looking at a new Sonet then why not the Brezza, Nexon, Venue etc ? This is a completely different question now :)
My suggestion for a course of action would be to first fix your limits on budget, size(based on traffic, parking etc), category and come up with concrete requirements like you had in you OP. Then approach the question from a new car and a used car perspective and then take a final call.
If Spinny/True Value call you, do tell them that you're looking at new cars too considering the prices being quoted.
That 2022 S-Cross Alpha seems suspicious. Who would want to sell their 1000km old S-Cross within months ? I suspect an accidental vehicle.
S Cross seems the best option for your situation but do try getting your hands on Duster and Ecosport again (the former being violently fast and latter being an exceptional vehicle overall).
Give it another shot and another thought.
S-Cross is undoubtedly a large and spacious vehicle with European-like styling and looks. Although a pure crossover, it ticks all your boxes. the reliability of Maruti, service and spare parts availability, tried and tested engine are all in favour of the S-Cross. Moreover it would be cheaper too.
As regards getting a brand new car, The Kia Sonet HTK Plus 1.0 IMT at under 11 lakhs OTR is a sub 4 metre car and would be easily maneuverable in congested lanes. However waiting periods are likely to be high with the Sonet. The base spec Kia Carens would be a great choice too as it priced at around 10.5 lakhs OTR with 6 airbags standard as well.

+1, something is fishy, especially at that price. Either accidental, or flood damage.
The 2020 S Cross would get my vote even if Spinny doesnt negotiate(although they do. I think its the Kolkata sales mentality, which is a different topic altogether).
Although it has a captain seat, i found those skinny and less comfortable than SCross (been in both).
Then is the issue of the smaller tires in XL6. It is otherwise a decent car, but not if your requirement is mostly for solo driving.
WRV would be slightly easier to drive in the Calcutta traffic and you can flog that engine to get to some speed. However, I found the interiors really spartan.
Being in Calcutta, where the humidity is high, the sun roof is more like a bane. You will gather leaves in the channels, which will get clogged and eventually rust. Hence, preferable avoid vehicles with sunroof in the city.
The SCross comes with reclining back seat as well (FYI) and is generally well built. I have 2 of them, both diesels (1.3 Microhybrid and the 1.6 pocket rocket).
It has very sedate highway manners which makes me pick that as my drive of choice for long distance runs, over my Corolla Altis.
Finally, Maruti/Nexa parts and spares are way cheaper than Honda and it is easy on the pocket.
Rest, up to you. All the best!

The S-Cross has a more reliable drivetrain; I have actually seen quite a few new Hyundai petrols beached on the roads sometimes even in the fast lane with bonnet open (more than I'd expect from a widely recognized mass market brand like Hyundai/Kia). Apart from that the S-Cross is more spacious on the inside, comes with a safer
feeling more durable and dynamically capable chassis. If the features the Sonet comes with, matters more than all of that, then go for it :thumbs up But in my mind it is certainly not more
car for the money.
Hi petrolsuvhead,
(a) Are you restricting your choices for the listed ones itself and asking to pick one ? If yes, it's every easy: S-Cross. WRV petrol is sluggish and XL6's performance is found wanting, plus, may not justify your requirements well.
(b) Appreciate your idea of exploring used-cars, but, ensure to do enough background checks. Also, i recommend to purchase from reputed used-cars dealers.
(c) If you are open to sedans, and assuming you have not budget constraints, why not look for Honda City, 4th generation? You can get a good example in 9.5-12L range.
(d) If you must go for a high GC vehicle, Brezza would also be good choice, but it may not be exactly fun-to-drive.
Good luck with your car hunt!
I would still suggest you go with the S-Cross instead of Sonet. Period.
A Torque Converter (TC) is anyway day miles better than an iMT. Infact, TC is the best automatic that one can get. Sonet HTK Plus iMT is no match for S-Cross Alpha in terms of space, refinement, ASS experience, features, value, etc. Another significant issue of the Sonet is the poor rear space. So it is S-Cross Zeta/Alpha over Sonet HTK Plus iMT.
Also please remember that this is a sellers market. So price negotiation is always at the mercy of the dealer/seller. With respect to the 2022 S-Cross, please get to the details of it. There is something fishy about this car. If you find everything clear, you cannot go wrong with both the models - 2022 and 2020 as well.
