Re: Car recommendations for a friendly giant | Height 6'5" I'm 6' 4", 110kgs and have recently sat in multiple cars as I have just swapped out both my cars. If you are looking for good under-thigh support. Forget it. You're not getting it. Best is to get a cushion custom made with a thin plywood sheet in the bottom at the front to give it support. It might take some trial and error to get the foam contour and thickness right.
Within 13-14L on road, my picks in terms of driver space would be Honda City/Elevate SV/V MT variants. Others are either missing critical features in lower variants or pushing you a segment down (Fronx, Venue, Sonet, Brezza). If you do go there, Sonet had the best seats for me (better than Seltos even), though I went with the Fronx for other reasons. It needs a bit more lumbar support for me, nothing a cushion couldn't help with.
I owned 4th gen city CVT for 5 years and Amaze Manual for 4 years before that. Headroom was ok, folks were able to sit behind me with ample legroom in the City and manageable legroom in the Amaze. Sitting in the reat seat was only possible if I slouched which would get uncomfortable after a couple hours. So, no long drives while sitting in the back. Elevate doesn't have that issue. I could sit upright all day in the back and getting the seat to it's farthest back and lowermost position gave me a comfortable spot as well.
XL6 has a design problem for laid back drivers like me. While the headroom is good for an upright sitting posture, I tend to recline the backrest a little more and that causes my hair to foul with the AC tunnel which I found irritating.
If you go 14L ex showroom, that opens a lot of options. Carens was the best overall. Even with the sunroof, i wasn't keeping the seat at it's lowest position. Under thigh support was as good as the other cars. I could even fit in the 3rd row for short distances.
If you don't want an MPV and want something more engaging to drive, err, well consider higher variants of the City/Elevate. Kushaq is roughly the same with more maintenance headaches, unless you really want that driving experience. Hyundai/Kia's suspension is meh compared to the Hondas based on reviews, but the space is similar (though I haven't tried out the new Seltos with thigh support adjustment). Nexon's sunroof was a major irritant. Maybe checkout the new one since they provide a non-sunroof option in higher variants as well.
Just for fun's sake, the best under-thigh support for me were provided my XUV700, Jeep Compass with thigh support adjustment, Scorpio N, Tata Hexa. But none of these are in your budget or available. |
