Offtopic. We can wish for both to come, but not probably in their 3 door formats. Looks like Thar, Gurkha and Defender would be the only 3 door SUV options in India for a long time. (Actually it is the same number of options for most of the global markets. 3 doors are sadly low sellers). The Prado no longer has 3 door version, and the only 3 door SUV Toyota sells now is the LC70, which India will never see.

Bronco. Ford has to come first, and also Ford has yet to launch the RHD version of the Bronco.

Toyota one. Not sure if India will ever get it. Most likely we are going to get some soft roaders.

That pretty much summarizes it. In my view both caters to different segments; much like a BMW, Z3 & a 320D, and they serves different purposes. A 3-door Thar is an attitude, a toy, a 3rd car at home, while 5-door Thar is for a family, a practical rough road commuter, primary or perhaps the only vehicle in your garage.

With 2 sedans at home, and now a 3-door Thar, my next one, at least 'aspirationally', is a 2 door convertible, like a Z3.

Re: 5-door Mahindra Thar Roxx Vs 3-door Mahindra Thar

The Roxx in 4x4 guise would be my pick. As a novice off-roader, I would want the lightness of the electric steering and a slightly more livable car than the Thar 3 door. The Roxx keeps you reasonably comfortable while also taking you everywhere a 3 door can. It's a shame the petrol variants aren't available with the 4x4 option. Mahindra can hit an absolute gusher in terms of sales if they democratize the powertrain configurations for the Thar Roxx. Imagine a petrol automatic Roxx with steel wheels and the 4WD system- that would be an absolute winner.

Re: 5-door Mahindra Thar Roxx Vs 3-door Mahindra Thar

I don't think the Thar is exceedingly superior to Roxx in office road capabilities. That makes the Roxx a default choice for most (Thar) buyers. On the arrival of this new family SUV, as well as my admission in the team BHP, I want to share two observations:
1. The 'etymology' of the Roxx is 'Thar Rocks'!
2. I wish Mahindra had installed a Scorpio N type touchscreen in the Roxx. I have a strong dislike for 'floating' touchscreens; it makes the car cabin look tiny and congested. When I compare my Ford Freestyle cabin space with the Old Figo (which doesn't have a floating touchscreen unlike the Freestyle), I feel suffocated.

Re: 5-door Mahindra Thar Roxx Vs 3-door Mahindra Thar

Voted for Mahindra Thar Roxx 4x4

I chose the Thar Roxx for a simple reason : practicality.

In my opinion, 3 door cars are not really suitable for India. Here, we are used to having additional 2 doors, which offer convenience for rear passengers. The Thar Roxx is not just loaded with features but also doesn't compromise on boot space.

Additionally, the Thar Roxx offers more power (although you pay more for it). Hence, the Thar Roxx makes more sense to me.

The only point against the Thar Roxx would be it's unavailability with a petrol engine.

Re: 5-door Mahindra Thar Roxx Vs 3-door Mahindra Thar

Roxx 4x4 any day, just that it does not have a Petrol AT keeps me away from getting one. One way I am glad that it did not launch with that combination, avoided me an EMI and madness from the chaotic, non-transparent and unprofessional booking experience friends are facing currently
