My Tyres cost me 32 paisa
Brakes and suspension repairs cost 36 paisa
Unusual repairs - broken/cracked windshields twice and bumpers twice - cost me 14 paisa
Routine recurring repairs - oil changes, filters, labour charges for misc. work (such as washing), taxes, etc - costt me 65 paisa.
Also changed batteries twice (once thanks to water flooding), cost me 5 paisa
And 14 paisa went into non-essentials like interior cleaning, AC cleaning, etc.
2 clutch plate replacements cost me 9 paisa

Yes, it includes all costs, and as you can see tyres cost me the most. For Scorpio, such long tyre life is not unusual. I do a lot of preventive maintenance. Don't think this cost profile is high at all, considering that one has to do a lot of wear-out replacements and this increases once he car crossed 50,000 kms.

All the cars/bikes I have owned have crossed 1,00,000 kms and I find that the Scorpio long-term costs compare favourably with the others.

I don't know about other Scorpios but I changed my stock tyres at 69K (3 years of use/misuse) that were good for another 7-8 K Kms.

You can read all about them here - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-a...y-scorpio.html

Recently a fellow Scorper friend changed his stock tyres at 55K (good for another 6-7K) to Yoko Geolanders.

Lasting of tyres depends on the way one drives and looks after the tyres as well. Proper air pressure, timely alignment, balancing and rotation play a great role in that.

I'm impressed at the break-up of costs. Of course I'm not very good at number crunching - but do you utilise some sort of excel sheet for this?
And speaking of tyres, most cars I have owned need a change around 45 to 55 k kms. What I was asking is, how come the Scorpio stretches tyres for so long?

I ahve one for the last year and a half and it has done about 25K but most of it has been long runs in both plains and hills. Offroad I ahve taken it to the Chanshal Pass when there was but only a slight semblence of a road there. No issues. Recently did about 5700 Kms in 16 days over a variety of topography, no issues. One of mY friends has done about 85K in about 2.5 years and the beast is still going strong. No issues except regular maintainance.

Thanks, all. Incidentally, since it is a Excel Table Wizard file, you can query detail - such as when you last topped up oil, changed brake pads, and so on. Very useful when you are planning your next service. An improved version is almost ready (this one is a bit rustic) and I will upload that after it is complete. Does not take long to maintain this file, I retain all bills also.

Sir, as it is your detailed maintainence and travel logs are awesome. By retaining all the bills as well, you've left me speechless.

Looking forward to the improved revised version...

Man the detailed Excel sheet is just awesome, everything is credited for not only you but if you ever sell it off the next owner will get the clearest picture of what he is going to buy and will be very happy and thankful to you.

Well, if any prospective buyer sees this detailed log, he may hesitate to buy it too - get scared by all the work that has been done! I recall I had the same type of log for my old Matiz, and I gave it to Service manager of Daewoo with an application for extended warranty - they turned me down!

Lol Kumar. Mate you must have scared the pants off him. He would not know that so much work could be done on a lil Matiz.
