Scorpio FE was miserable!

Guys!

I recently did a trip from Mumbai to Kolhapur (approx 450 KM) in my scorpio cRDE which has done 35K Km as of now. I was driving anywhere between 80Km/Hr to 120Km/hr as its a nice express way kinda road and very less traffic.

Details of the car are:
Scorpio cRDE
K&N Apollo Universal Filter
Michellin Latitude Tubeless Tyres

The FE i got was 9.8Km/Ltr on the highway driving. I was surprised as i was expected atleast 12-13 Km/Ltr. The filter was cleaned a week before the trip.
What could be the possible cause for this?
What FE do other scorpio owners get on highway and in traffic.

I was more dissapointed cause my dad was driving a Logan Diesel along with me and he got a FE of 22Km/Ltr. It was a slaughter.

Holy cow, 9.8 is ridiculously low! Something is definitely wrong with your car, but @ 35K, I can't figure out what. The Kolhapur road is absolutely superb, my C220 did 760+ kms on a tank using that route to Goa. Presuming that the power delivery of your Scorpio was okay? How did you measure the FE....full tank to full tank?

I agree with GTO here. There has to be something wrong with your car. My Conti gave her best ever fuel consumption figures when I went to Goa via the Kolhapur route. 14.7km/l for a car that's never seen anything more than 12.5km/l was really an achievement.

I guess that its ok. My Safari DICOR gives me between 9.5 & 10.5 on the highways at speeds in excess of 120.

I get 10-10.5 kmpl in highway driving in my Scorpio non-Crde. But then I constantly drive a 120 kmph + speeds.

The last Interstate I did on stock tyres in my non-CRDe 2004 Scorpio was in Dec'07 to Dudhwa. Without AC, since it was winter, I got 13.6 kmpl at an average speed of 100 kmph.

After I changed my tyres with an upsize, the FE seems to have gone for a six. I drove to Jodhpur & back on these tyres in the summer of 2008 and the FE with AC on throughout, was a dismal 9.5 kmpl.

I did Pune Kohlapur in June on an CRDE scorpio and got an average of about 11kmpl. 9.8 is not all that bad if you are driving with your pedal to the floor.

my scorp(2003 non-crde model) has done 92K kms and still returns 10.5 to 11(on goodyear wrangler AT/R 255/70/r15). however, it gives only 10 when driven above 110kmph.

You could check for a leak in your fuel-line or tank.

thats too low for a highway drive. I used to get 11 in highways & 8-9 in city traffic in my turbo.

That's incredibly low for a scorpio which was driven at that speed. How did you measure it?

I measured it full tank to full tank. That shaking the car procedure for the air lock **** and all also.

I Personally feel the michellin tyres which give me a better grips somewhere affects the FE.

Yeah i checked and there are no fuel leaks. In fact did a entire car checkup 3 days before the tour.

I really wanna figure out its just my car or any other Scorpio doing 100KM/Hr + gives the same FE.

my old turbo used to give me 11-12 on highways.
my hawk gives me 13-14, obviously at speeds of 120-130 kph.
i guess there is some problem with your scorpio man. pls send it to the service centre for thorough check up.

Have you upsized your tyres? As gd said, upsizing does reduce the FE considerably.

Over the last 4 tank top-ups I've consistently got a FE of 9.88kmpl in city driving with AC. Since all parameters of my car are working 'purr'fectly and no changes have been done as such, I presume it is the upsize that is giving me heartburns..
