Read some online news, the partner providing Auto Tansmissions for Scorpio, Drivetrain Systems International is on the verge of bankruptcy.

Wonder how will M&M manage Scorpio AT vehicles if Drivetrain shuts down.

Their website shows under Re-construction.

I think many Automotive component manufacturers are in this situation including some of the big US names. Delphi filed for bankruptcy in 2005 and came out of it. Hopefully Drive Train will reorganize and pull out of it. They do it to renegotiate their loan commitments, labor contracts etc..

If that doesn't work, Mahindra will have to tie up with another Transmission maker. Category:Automotive transmission makers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In my experience advantage of Automatic Transmission is best suitable only for city traffic driving, highway cruising, Senior Citizen, Women drivers and if on long drive with girl friend.

Many people had mentioned their International experience with AT but what ever exposure I am having driving manual vehicle in such places, driving manual vehicle is considered as a skill and due for respect.

Now coming to AT 2WD / AWD Vehicle driving on mountain hill climb is like a nightmare if power is your passion forget about going off road with it.

This aspect was and has never been highlighted by the manufacturers...

The only time I had or do wish for an AT is when stuck in long traffic jams.

Let me give justification for benefits I counted.
  • Advantage in traffic is known to all.
  • Senior citizens & Women are very well known for their on road presence & prompt response (Forgive me but this is applicable due to the community they fall, exceptions are excused and this is my view)
  • On highway driving you don't have to worry for changing gears upon breaking and reducing speed too. The last Vehicle I drove had feature in system which locks acceleration so gas flow continues at speed which you press the switch and vehicle maintains the speed till you unlock the switch again. In short you don't have to paddle the accelerate for driving your car on constant speed.
  • Last one Best car to go with Girl friend as your passenger side hand is always free when you drive AT Vehicle. (Just Kidding)
Will discuss disadvantages of AT 4WD / AWD on one to one basis.

They will definitely be launching 4wd AT in North America. A cousin of mine in US has registered on their US site. And he has received the following mail as reply:

Thank you for registering with Mahindra North America!
In 2009, we will be introducing the first all-diesel line of pickup trucks and SUVs in North America. As part of that introduction, we'll be traveling the country to show America just how far a Mahindra can go.
By signing up to find out more about Mahindra, you can be one of the first Americans to test-drive one.
Watch your email in mid-2009 for your exclusive invitation to a Mahindra test drive event near you.

Does it have to say that explicitly if the target is North America?

Yes. All SUV's will be sold in AT configuration in USA. This country has migrated to AT long ago. Please go to the link below to check out their US website.
Mahindra Clean Diesel Pickup Trucks and SUVs

Mahindra is yet to finalize the name for the Scorpio in US. They had earlier applied for Appalachian but I don't think they will be using it any longer.

You can find more about US version of Scorpio here:
PickupTruck.com - Mahindra Promises Diesel Hybrid Pickup by 2010

and here
Road & Track Magazine - Spied: 2010 Mahindra pickup truck (3/2009)

You can also reach the Mahindra USA website and their other international websites from here:
Mahindra Global Business, Mahindra International Business and Operations, Indian Vehicle Manufacturer Global Network

You have to select the the zone as American and country as USA.

If you go to the following site below, you will discover that Mahindra is using the same engine for Xylo, which it was using for international version of Scorpio before introduction of Mhawk.

Yes indeed, but not with the auto transmission. Mine is a manual box.

Good news. The Scorpio website is now showing the price of VLX AT-4WD so I am hoping that one can order AT-4WD. Obviously none of the dealers know about it, as usual.

Yes - quoted at 11,00,900 INR ex-showroom Delhi. About 96,000 INR premium above the manual transmission VLX 4WD. And to think, this was the car I was looking for, for the last year!
