Are the dealerships supposed to take care of this without customer complaints/requests or are you supposed to ask for them? Suppose he has not go them done, is it too late to get them done for free or will I have to pay for them?
No worries. If the vehicle was regd in Feb 2006 its under warranty till Feb 2010 - you should get all that is due on your vehicle, I dont think there's a 'too late' concept.

Since the person is known to you, you can definitely arrange for a dealer inspection. Just make sure you go to the right dealer.

Of course, the ideal would be the gent who buys it because he wants the most expensive model, and just takes it to the malls every weekend!
