Mahindra Bolero Turbo DI DX !!

I am considering the above vehicle for my dad and I want to invite suggestions regarding the above vehicle. My dad has always been a mahindra fan for its rough & tough image..

Pros,
- Its a small wheel-base bolero, the same as the invader, hence smaller turning radius..
- Comes with an A/C.
- Nice Rugged Vehicle.
- Boasts of a mileage of 15 KMPL.
- Good looks..
- Smooth Ride, took it over a fairly rough section of the road..

Cons,
- No Power-Steering.. Single biggest disadvantage..
- Rear Baby Seats are not very comfortable for a tall person..
- Less power, just 65 BHP engine..

I would like to know from other TBHPians, about their experiences with a Bolero DI.. Specifically on the Mileage, cost of Maintenance, etc.

My Budget is between 5.5 and 6.0 lacs..

Please suggest suitable alternatives..

Havent used the DI. Have driven the Bolero many times. Personally, I felt it was not sluggish, pulled properly. This is the GLX which I have driven. The ride is good too. Nice rugged vehicle as you have mentioned. The DI engine from the Marshall now comes with a 5 Speed gearbox. I would suggest you to look for the powersteering version (GLX, I guess), because the Bolero can be very tedious without power steering.

Mahindras are alright, but with the many niggling issues and the glaring lack of refinement - I would never recommend it to someone who is almost a senior citizen,

Check out the Chevy Tavera. They have some basic versions which match the Mahindras in price, but are LIGHT-YEARS ahead in each and every area.

I second GTOs opinion. Once of the automags have the full road test of the DI. They say unless you are going mud slinging 90% of the time, stay away from it.

Tavera comes with a nice big service warranty also - 5 years I think. So your maintenance costs will definitely be lower.

The biggest con is the BS-III engine. The 4x4 is BS-II! So you will have to register it out of the metros.

If your budget can bear it get a Scorpio, it is better all round.

Had taken a test of the Bolero DI last year, for the money you pay, i dont think it does any justice. Engine lacks power, fit and finish of a 6lac car is just not right. I also felt that AC was not too great either.
