If you are sure that the rear seat will be used mostly by a sleeping kid, then go for a 8 seater. If not, then the leg space is very less for regular usage as a seat for adult passengers (you'll be better off with a Xylo in this case). Downside of a 8 seater configuration is less space for stowing luggage on long trips, which can be overcome by fixing a good rooftop carrier.

b) planning to upgrade with alloys from showroom , any indicative buy back price for the steel wheels + wheel caps and also OE JK tyres to Bridgestone.
I changed to OE alloys at the time of 2nd free service, after using the stock steel rims for 8 months. Quote given by M&M ASC was 30k, but they came down to 26k for a set of 5 (including alignment and balancing) after bargaining.

No idea about the tyre upgrade. I'm still using the OE JK tyres.

Price for 4 OE alloys is Rs.21800 , i was thinking of trading in the steel wheels with alloys and was expecting 1000rs. per wheel and Rs. 2200 is the price quoted for set of 4 wheel caps , so that alloys price cud come down by rs.6000 . Am not sure if this can be done at the showroom.

That seems like a good deal, if you can get it. Good luck!

Hi Rm_arjuna,

Waiting for you to start your purchase thread about Scorpio.

I do not think the dealer provides any money back for the stock wheels & tyres. You might want to check with some of our contacts outside!

@comfortablynumb, some details on the difference in the ride and handling felt upon the changeover to the OE alloys would be welcome.

I too am thinking of changing over to alloys for my Scorp

@Prometheus, congrats on the Scorp !

Hi Mooza,

My Crde SLX came with the steel alloy look rims, which after an year I changed to alloys. The ride became lighter, the car was easily sprinting and ofcourse the looks!

My VLX came with the stock alloys, which I did not like so before delivery got them upgraded to AURA 16" alloys at the dealer itself.

Hai Prometheus,

Congrats on the ownership, hope you'd have lots of happy times driving the beast.

Another TBHpr Pramod had taken an AT to Ladakh and had serious problems, it would be worth going through his thread to understand the nature of problem. I think it had to do with the cooling pipes of the complicated gear box and needed specialists to set it right. Knowing about it would be useful to avoid problems. User experiene of the AT is pretty good, I am sure you'd love the beast, it's one hecak of a refined engine and the AT is the cherry on the ice-cream

Enjoy....

Well, I'm not a very techie guy when it comes to cars, but I'll try my best to explain.

Handling: With the alloys, the steering just feels more "crisp", especially in city driving (speeds varying between 20-60). The highway runs don't feel much different.

Ride: The load in my Scorpio is 2-3 passengers, most of the time. With this load, the ride felt quite bouncy on cement roads (not so much on tar roads) when the Scorpio had steel rimmed wheels. After fitting the alloys, this has improved to a great extent. As various ownership reports attest, M&M has manage to dampen the body roll in the mHawk to a great extent, and I agree with that. Not many complaints on that front, either with or without alloys.

Looks: Like getsurya, the OE alloys weren't my 1st choice. It's not that they are bad looking, but IMO, they only look good on darker coloured Scorpios like brown, black or rocky beige. I was searching for the alloys like shankar.balan has on his Scorpio (Aura model F11665 Hyper Silver), but didn't get them anywhere in Pune/Mumbai. Nikhilb2008 had them in Bangalore, but somehow I couldn't manage to pick them up. This was when I realised why rjstyles69 says choosing alloys for a White vehicle is difficult. So, I settled for the OE alloys (not a big fan of Neo, and the designs that I liked in Plati weren't available in Scorpio's PCD).

Sorry if my feedback sounds vague, but that's the best I could do!

Cheers,
Vikram

Re: Mahindra Scorpio - VLX AT - Comments!

VLX AT is with TPMS . Not sure what happens when we add our own alloys .

The TPMS is a wonderful feature for the tubeless tyres . U never know when u loose air and the tyre still shows its all great . But once the air starts going down , u will see a puncture. I have a VLX Normal version
