Guys, even i am in the same dilemma. looking for a SUV in the 20L range. we have shortlisted the captiva & fortuner.

mom & bro loves the fortuner & since we have an innova already, we are confident of its A.S.S., but i am not too happy with the features offered in it. although, it looks the part but frankly i think the fortuner is not worth 22 lakhs.

on the other hand, i love the captiva except that it does not come with rear AC vents. guys, when is the new captiva launching? does it have rear AC vents? its very very important for us. also, i heard there will be a new 2.2 CRDi engine offered as well, true?

by the way, i like the tall & commanding driving postion which i think the captiva lacks with respect to the fortuner... super confused!

we are not interested in the Aria as its a TATA nor are we interested in the outlander as its a petrol. pajero is too outdated now.

If you need presence and power, on and off road, go for an Endy AT. If you want only an in-city large and good looking vehivle, the Captiva, or if you want to stretch the budget, maybe the XTrail. If can stretch it a little more, and have some patience, wait for the BMW X1

CAPTIVA could be a better handler, given the monocoque construction. It should drive like a car, with its relatively low stance. It is a great looker too. With Toyota, you are sure about the A.S.S. and parts availability. More numbers on the road means better stock of spareparts. Moreover, captiva is an imported CBU to the best of my knowledge.

Endy - I hate that vehicle! no offence. i am not buying an outdated pick up truck with leaf springs at back & even worse rear seat comfort for 20 lakhs. also, our priorities are good ride & comfort. we are not going off road with this one. atleast nothing extreme!

X trail - Again rejected as i hate the way it looks (chinese!) & nissan's dealers are rare to find.

BMW X1 - we did think about this car but then we need a 7 seater (sorry i dint mention that earlier) & also BMW's A.S.S. would be too expensive even if the initial price of the car is less.

so its the captiva or fortuner.

Mitsubishi dealer in Chd confirmed that the Pajero Sports will soon be launched and i would recommend you wait and takes a look at that. It has a different stand than the current Pajero sold here.

Pajero Sport is a great SUV, and will compete head-on with the Fortuner. Very similar capabilities, as per South Africans who have extensively driven and compared both.

If yes what is the waiting period?

Why not? Especially when the technology is already there to make it happen without much compromises.

even i feel Pajero sport would be a great SUV. somehow it does not look that good, but that is acceptable. what would be its pricing?

also, how is Mitsu's A.S.S.?

not at all urgent. we are ready to wait for new launches, if any. Toyota fortuner has a 5-7 months waiting period.

Guys, is it worth waiting for the new launches like Pajero sport & Hyundai Santa Fe. I am really tempted by the feature list of the Aria. Now the following cars come to my mind -

Aria - Really tempting feature list but its a TATA at the end of the day.

Fortuner - Boring interiors + no features + overpriced but its a toyota.

Captiva - awesome interiors & comfort but no rear AC vents.

Outlander - if at all i buy this car, it will be only for its looks & paddle shifts! its a petrol & Mitsu's A.S.S is a suspect.

Hyundai Santa Fe & Paj Sport - No idea about when is it going to be launched & how will they be!

Pajero they are talking about is known as Montero in India.

Hmm, so you are going to have a new ride. Congrats buddy. Coming to the choice of vehicle, I vote for the Fortuner since no other vehicle in its segment offers the kind of road presence, reliability, longevity and hassle free *** like the Fortuner.

Samurai, the Pajero that is being spoken about is not the Montero but the Pajero Sport.

even i like the fortuner for its looks & reliability but dont you think its not at all VFM?

If you ask me Id say get the Sante Fe. It will be fully loaded, and supposedly launched before the end of the year. Also Hyundais are reasonably reliable.

Frankly I dont think its worth commenting on the Aria until you have seen it. Why not check it out, it might surprise you.

@ akshay: buddy, i have no doubts that the Aria would be a good car. no doubts on the car as such. but we have lost our trust in TATA products as we have had very bad experiences with TATAs in the past with 2 safaris & an indica. So, we dont want to play a gamble worth 16 lakhs to be honest.

Will the Santa Fe be priced in the 20L range?
