Which People mover (MUV) for commercial use???

We have a requirement for buy a new MUV for commercial use.
Shortlisted the 2 MUVs. Bolero and TATA SUMO Victa.
Excluded XYLO, Grande, and Innova etc for Budget constraints.

Need expert advice which model to go for?
Which one is less maintenance?
Which is safe on road?
Which is more fuel efficient?

I read somewhere in this forum that NEW SUMO is expected..But when?

MOD:- Kindly move / Merge the thread if this is not the right place.

Re: Which People mover (MUV) for commercial use???

  • Going with a sales perspective, the BOLERO outsells the SUMO 4:1
  • Guess you could say the same about resalve value
  • The SUMO has a taxi image while the BOLERO has a personal carrier image
  • As far as maintenance goes, the BOLERO beats the SUMO hands down, that's why it sells
  • I've seen BOLERO threads where the vehicles have run 8,00,000 kilometers, wonder if that happens on a SUMO
  • Where the SUMO scores is on comfort and space
  • Its also not as crude as the BOLERO and is easier to pilot
  • The BOLERO does not roll around as much as the SUMO
Final comments: If you would be using it more for image then its the BOLERO, if it is practicality then it is SUMO

Re: Which People mover (MUV) for commercial use???

It depends on what you are going to use the car for. if you want a people mover, go for the sumo.
If you want it for transportation purposes go for the Sumo as it has much more space then the bolero.
But like said, the bolero is a much more reliable vehicle.
And tata's after sales service is really bad.

If I were you, I'd give a serious look to the Tata Winger (Link to test drive report).

Else, the Tata Sumo. Primary reason : Comfort. The Sumo is extremely spacious, while the regular Bolero is cramped. the Sumo has excellent ride quality too, especially when below 80 kph.

Re: Which People mover (MUV) for commercial use???

You could look at both the Winger and the Venture from Tata and the Echo from Maruti at one end, and the Sumo in the mid, going upto the bases Grande Mark II at the top end.

The Bolero feels cramped on the inside comparatively, as people carriers the Winger, Venture (both diesels) and Echo (which is a petrol vehicle, but with decent fuel effeciency) all feel more refined compared to both the Sumo and the Bolero, if you can stretch the budget at bit nothing would beat the Grande Mark II for value.

Re: Which People mover (MUV) for commercial use???

Thank you very much all of you for your response.

@TheARUN :- You are correct. As far as maintenance goes, the BOLERO beats the SUMO.
The SUMO scores is on comfort and space.

@ DMehta :- But in my area TATA A*S*S is better then mahindra.

@ GTO :- The Tata Winger is out of budget. Let me check with my local dealer, if there is any tax discount for this car if registered as taxi.

I am also looking into TATA VENTURE. But availability in orissa may be a issue.

================================================== =====================

EDIT:-

No tax return on car more then 7 seater.
As per the SE, No tax return on any model of SUMO and "BOLERO Plus AC BS3".

But have tax benefit for "BOLERO DI with AC BS3" and BOLERO SLE BS3" model.

TATA VENTURE is not available in ORISSA.

At least here in Mumbai, I see Sumos plying on commercial duty more than Boleros. In fact it's hard to remember when I last saw a yellow-numbered Bolero.
