Re: BHPians at the Indian F1 GP 30th Oct '11

If anybody's there at the Classic Stand North, Block B, just knock at C16/17. We're there.
By the way, if anyone has alternatives to the BIC Bus Service, please use that.
At the North side Bus Mall, it was utter chaos as there were no buses available to any location starting 3pm. When we enquired about the bus for Gurgaon, we were told there were no bus and that people with no tickets had boarded the only bus and gone. And here we were, the guys who had tickets. A bus was finally arranged at 6:15pm.
For the Park and Ride service, there were people travelling on the roof of the buses. Also, the Circuit shuttles were pressed into service to take the people back to Knowledge Park.

To sum it up, a horrible mismanagement or as one says a "functioning anarchy".

Anybody willing to spare two seats for tomorrow (race day) in their vehicle?

Tried to get a first hand feel of the race weekend and felt that the agenda is to somehow run the race successfully without hiccups. Whether spectators get to see anything or whether people are stranded quite a long way from the action etc is not very important for now. Maybe once all the hoopla is over and when it becomes a regular event, folks interested in racing can try their luck.

Hope everyone enjoys the race!

Apparently, you cant get onto the Taj Expressway without a parking permit. If you dont have a parking permit, opposite to the entry to the Taj Expressway, you have the Park and Ride which, by rideon's account, isnt very efficient.

There is service lane next to the Taj Expressway that runs the length to the BIC. BUT you will be turned away about 2 km from the venue.

If you dont have a parking permit, my guess is that its best that you hire a car (or have a driver) to drop you till that 2 km point- then hot foot the rest. The driver can wander off for the next few hours. That way you're not at the mercy of the buses.

P.S. still looking for magnanimous BHPians who have two seats available in their parking-permit-affixed cars on Sunday for two really fun people

Just used the park n ride option. Very comfortable. Free parking. Free ride to the circuit. Drove with 4 friends to knowledge park and immediately got the shuttle to the circuit. Right in front of the north stand. No complaints about reaching or about the arrangements.

Being the second day, it seems they have really pulled up their socks. No issues with the Park and Ride. The huge (free) parking has shuttle running at frequent intervals. While going and while coming back, I never had to wait beyond 5 mins to board a bus. The buses from the parking lot will drop you near gate no 28 in the North Zone. From there there is another shuttle service which would take you to the West, South and East Zones. Get down near your gate by giving a shout to the bus driver. They will oblige.

Samosa @ Rs 100/- is good and very filling. Kachori @ Rs. 100/- is to be avoided, soggy and lacking. Water & Aerated drinks (Rs15 & Rs20 resp.) are being served at room temp. Did not try non-veg options.

Did you manage to hitch a ride? How was your overall experience?

Brilliant. Getting there was less of a pain. Went to the park and ride, took the bus and managed to get to our seats by the time the national anthem started. Getting back was a bit of a pain- taking over 3 hours to reach noida. But worth the experience I'd say.

Although, had this been in the middle of the summer, I doubt whether the bus ride would have been as comfortable.

Someone post a quickie report.
