Dippy & PS, Whoa...cool...got any pics?

Well i dont mean a typical go kart...but yeah i agree that either way a CBR 600 gokart is a bit ridiculous! Just the other day i was talking to p-head about how the prokarts(~14bhp) handle so differently from the usual (4.5/7.5bhp) karts at landmark citi...just coz they are putting more power down and its so much easier to spin out.

Its way too ridiculous. A CBR 600 puts out about 110 Bhp. Imagine that on a go cart. we are looking at some serious damage here.

A CBR600 engine in a go-kart? Dude, you will be sitting in one place with the chassis while the engine shoots out for a lap of its own

Well, karts putting out in excess of 100Hp do exist and are raced all over the world. They are called different things in different countries, but the most common name is simply "Superkarts".

They are usually 250cc single and twin Rotax two stroke motors, with a 350 bhp/litre figure * *and they clock speeds in excess of 260kmh with 0-100kmh in 3 seconds and 0-200kmh in 6 seconds. *

On certain circuits, they are actually QUICKER than a F1 car.

I'll post the pics soon, though the Kart was built in 1985-86, so its pretty much a classic now! !

Thank you rtech!

I agree that 110bhp is a lot for a kart....(thats why its a dream project).....but the CBR engine has been designed to peak at 110, and by varying the timing of the ignition/valves and makeing a few changes to the exhaust and intake im sure it could gain a lot more driveability (ie greater spread of power) even though itd loose a couple of top bhp@peak.
Plus when i say go-kart the definition is very vague - small, open framework (though maybe not with 100bhp;-]), low slung, 4 wheels.

shoot.im late for class.cya

Hey rehaan,

Your choice of the CBR engine is ideal. I'm sure you must've heard of the Formula SAE contest that takes place across the world every year. The idea is for a team of college going ppl to get together and build from scratch a single seater formula car, to some basic dimensions, and then race it with the other entries.

Over the years, the engine of choice for most teams is the CBR 600. Log onto
Formula SAE to get some idea's if you like.

You may have read about the team from Chandigarh who is trying to get the backing to enter this year too. Hope they can find the sponsors.

Hey,

I had vaguely heard of formula SAE, remember reading about it when my parents were bugging me to go to college coz i needed some inspiration to make it happen! ;-]
Didnt know about the CBR 600 being their most popular engine of choice though...cool!
Also remember seeing an article about that group of engineering kids from india making some kinda racer.....looked pretty well made.

A few guys were talking about making a mini-baja racer...those are cool as well...... did some research but found out the budget for a good one is like $10,000 .... so sponsorship is a MUST.
I am holding back on this stuff till next year (ie sept 2004) which is when i will begin to get access to the wood and metal shops and the other equipment in the industrial design building.....lets see how it goes.

Cheers
