There is a trip planned for late Aug 2013 with fellow bhpian "Gauravdgr8". As of now its my Manza and his Vista and I think we have Tushargohail joining us as well.

Mostly its always the SUV's which do such journeys, would be nice experience to do it in hatch & sedans. This year quite a few bhpians did it in their sedans which has been quite inspiring.

Would really like to join in with my Vento for the journey from Navi Mumbai, can I? Aug'13 is still a long way ahead. With sedan & hatch best route would be via Delhi-Jammu-Srinagar-Drass-Leh and same way back. Doing return via Manali would be torturous for sedans, what say?

Sure you can join us from Navi Mumbai below is the route plan. It is just a matter of dates matching. We are starting on 24th Aug. We will be passing by your place the same day for a halt in Vapi. We can work out the details on where to meet if you confirm.

Yes we are planning way ahead so that everyone is prepared well in advance

Onward:
Blr - Belgaum - Pune - Vapi - Panipath - Amritsar - Khajjar - Srinagar - Kargil - Leh

Return:
Leh - Manali - Delhi - Agra - Udaipur - Mumbai - Belgaum - Blr

Return downhill through Manali can be done on a Sedan/Hatchback, though depends on the road condition at that time. But it will be fun to drive through these roads with adequate preparation.

Then surely I did I like to tentatively confirm myself, but you may never know, Aug'13 is far and planning before goes a long way and we have many bhpians who are all there to guide us all along. XUV can be the safety car.

Where are you all planning to halt en-route while going & coming? If you all plan to stop over at Vapi coming from Banglore, then I could directly meet you all up at Vapi by leaving from Navi Mumbai early same day when you all departure from Vapi. But still its all in planning.

I am tentative, since it's still a long way and the duration is almost a working month. But I do want to do this trip in my nANO! I had already chalked up a plan to go there at around the same time, so if fellow BHPians are going, why not join them?

So please add me in the tentative list as the dates are frozen I may be able to make some definite plans.

I do want to bring my Nano on the expedition, however the tiny fuel tank of 15ltrs means she will make more pit stops to refuel (the effective range should still be around a respectable 300kms). Plus with the restricted luggage space, I may only be able to carry a single passenger, or at a stretch two. I shall try and get a few other friends onboard, with or without vehicles. But it's all really sketchy at the moment.

Yes, we are halting at Vapi (Woodlands Hotel) on 24th night. We would be starting from Vapi early morning of 25th. So you can definitly join us in Vapi. If we are unable to reach Vapi then somewhere after Mumbai on the highway we would be stopping. (If you know of any good places to stay close by then that would be great.)

Yes, HVK's log files have been a lot of help , more detailed stops and plans is being made as I speak. This should be ready by this weekend.

Planning to buy a vehicle soon. If, incase i get an SUV, then i prefer to do it in my car. Dates are fine but if something important comes up in the last moment, i might drop.

Want to avoid Leh in August when it resembles a zoo! :P

Is that half or 1 to 2 people? Which SUV are you planning to buy. It is not must but I guess you will have more peace of mind.

Aug is a rush but it is relatively dry weather so it will be easier for Sedans, but our trip is mostly towards the end of Aug so mostly in Sept.
