Looking for Ladakh long drive-mates in August 2013

Hi all,
Planning a Kashmir-Ladakh or Manali-Ladakh from South(Am from Cochin), this August. A 15+ day journey. Any drivaholic, who can endure 1000+ kms/day can join, with good vehicle, preferably Scorpio, SUVs, Boleros. 4 or 5 vehicles, each with atleast two expert drivers, but each vehicle self-sufficient.

Those interested may post here or PM me.

Great Hemanth !
We can sure join together.
i hope few more will join by the time of August, let us see.

And let us get in touch, and keep the desire burning, not doused by 'personal inconveniences, work/duty impediments' etc...
Such trips are mostly once in a life time, so hit the nail when it is hot...

Sunney

Thanks for your revert on my PM, I am from Mumbai and keen to be a part of this voyage.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...ia-ladakh.html

This is one trip that was done from Bangalore in a Getz between June and July; I have also learnt that the best time to travel up north is September.

Maybe some of the experts like HVK can help us plan better and hassle-free

We should also have a sort of an itinerary - taking into account who all are a part of this trip and where their respective journey's could start from etc etc.

Cheers

S

Sunney, count me in. I have been trying to do this trip for the last couple of years but something or the other keeps coming up.

Scorpio 4X2 - checked
Like minded drivaholic - very elusive animal, especially when it comes to being away from work/family for couple of weeks. Will find one before we leave. I am all set.
Place - NCR

Cheers,
Sid

True, passionate drivers are a rare breed, I agree. Still they are there 1 in 10000s or so. This forum proves that.

We are already 4 vehicles, ready to go. Good response.
We may consult our "Dr.' HVK, 'Specialist-Drivaholism', for expert advices the best route we can complete in about 15 days, covering few tourist attractions too, but Ladakh being the main destination.

I heard that the Himanchal govt. is banning all non-Himanchal registered cars on the Manali-Ladakh (via Rohtang route)!

Spoilsports !!

Heard it before at this forums too.
Do not know the logic behind. They lose lot of money spent by tourists en-route on food, amenities etc.

Is this ban only for yellow-board non himachal vehicles (non himachal taxis)?
Is that even possible to ban other state registered vehicles in a state?
Cheers,
Deepak

re: Looking for Ladakh long drive-mates in August 2013

I would bet my money on that Yellow-board Taxis are banned. this is possible by greasing palms and in hand-in-glow with Government and Goons.

I am not sure if they would even prevent Non-himachal registered private (White board) vehicles from plying. I dont think there is a law. The only way is to enforce this illegaly with police and goons.

Consider CB Radios for inter vehicle communications specially in the remote regions. PM me if you need more details.

If the group doesn't get too large, I'll join at delhi

but it will depend on the itenerary. I can understand trying to get to the himalayas at the rate of 1000km a day, but once in the mountains, I am a fan of taking it all in, not trying to make huge distances per day. If somebody says in leh that he's going to try to make it to Jammu in one trip, I'm going to say "see ya"

Even private non himachal vehicles aren't allowed on manali rohtang road after a certain point. I believe idea is to reduce congestion. Saw it first hand last year. Policemen hand over leaflets on this subject to non HP vehicles before you enter Manali. Not sure if there is a way to get permission etc.

Friend Harbir,
Your worries are unfounded. Why we take the hell of troubles to reach such high altitudes ? To EXPERIENCE those extra ordinary, surrealistic feeling evoked by the sheer diversities of landscape, climate, flora-fauna(?) etc. No ?
How can one dash out, once reaching there?

The 1000km/day is the 'desirable' benchmark speed to reach the wonderland, from the other part of India, from the Southern tip, say my Cochin ! Imagine if drive 250 km/day, how many days to reach Leh !
Also only drivaholics alone can scale such distances. And for drivaholics, it is no limiting factor, but a challenge to overcome. We have ample examples in this Forum itself. So dont worry....

IF THIS IS TRUE(ban on private vehicles of other states), it is discrimination and against our constitution. ANY BONAFIDE INDIAN CAN GO AND LIVE IN ANY STATE OF INDIAN UNION, by constitutional right. NONE can make a regulation to curb it on WHATSOEVER reasons. If challenged by the 'smallest' Indian, the state is answerable.

To reduce traffic rush? A lame reason to cover up some hidden agenda !
If rush is a reason, imagine if Sabarimala is banned for other Indians except Keralites or Taj is kept exclusive for UPians !

Can any BHPian from Himachal study it and explain/ reason the ban ?

I think BHPians have to challenge it.

Non HP registered vehicles have not been banned, its just that one now needs permit to move out of manali towards leh.
